The 2014-2015 IRS Data Retrieval Tool will be available on Feb. 2nd according to FAFSA web site.
Is that means if IRS has accepted the Tax Returns then we can try this Tool to see if it can Retrieve the Tax info.

The site also mention it took 2-3 weeks for IRS to have the info available for FAFSA Tool if filled through eFile.

The IRS has to have processed the return, not just have accepted it. Early in the filing season I think it’s been more like 10-14 days in the past couple of years the tool has been available. Depends on the return too. If you’re getting a refund you can use ‘Where’s My Refund’ to get an idea of when the data may be available to the tool. Around the time your refund is scheduled to be deposited assuming direct deposit.

IRS is saying they are accepting the Returns but wont process it till 1/31 which is less then 12 hrs from now.
But if one is in the Que then their will get done first…

^ Yes. That is what our accountant telling me. They will start processing efile on 1/31 and the file will be ready for retrieval around 2 weeks after processing.

If you already submitted FAFSA, with your completed taxes, can you go back once the tool is available and use it? Or is it even worth it to avoid verification?

I could be off base here, but using the data retrieval tool is verifying your information. What is the difference between going in and using the import tool or waiting until you get an e-mail from the college telling you to do it. Taxes are taxes, once they are done it doesn’t matter much whether you do it in February or April and your FAFS needs to match, perhaps I’m misunderstanding your question.

I was under the impression when you use the IRS tool, it just does everything automatically, while if the college requests verification, they want you to send in copies of documents and such. Or even a copy of a divorce agreement.

I had kids in school most of the last 8 years. We had verification on several occasions. I was never asked to provide a divorce decree, at FAFSA only or Profile schools. I wouldn’t provide that had they asked.

I think Tool picks your IRS approved TAX numbers and populate them on the FAFSA and send to the Colleges.
Its like you sending them a signed TAX copy and then School updating the estimated info with correct info on FAFSA. I first send the FAFSA with 2013 Estimated Tax numbers, now I got my TAX done so I went back into FAFSA and update the estimated numbers with Real numbers and then send FAFSA again to Colleges.
The tool will just pick my TAX info from IRS and send to them.

Dad, the tool transfers the tax info from the IRS to FAFSA, you don’t need to manually update FAFSA first. After using the tool you sign and submit the FAFSA. When the FAFSA is processed from that submission and you get your SAR, the fields populated from the IRS will be marked transferred from the IRS.

I was able to Get into IRS Data Retrieval Tool but it tells me it takes 2-3 Weeks for Tax data to showed up for
eFilers… I did it manually but once the data is available I will import from IRS through DRT…

Drives me nuts that they removed the dates from older posts, so in a thread like the one linked above you cannot tell how long it took for some people.

Thats great news. Mine was accepted 1/29 and today i tried to retrieve it and it gives me this Error message.
“A technical problem has occurred. Return to the FAFSA and enter your responses to the financial questions using the information provided on your Federal tax return”

Not sure what that means since I already updated my FAFSA with correct 2013 Tax numbers.
