<p>I can not delete the schools. The remove buttons will not work. Who do I call> am I doing something wrong???</p>
<p>Debruns:
I am reading you posts# 2,166. I don’t know if you remember your old post.
Yes, we had our SAR and email saying my twins Fafsa was processed one day later (but this was over a week ago) I deleted the original schools and added a few more. I know that some received both because my girls have an “accepted student ID” and it is checked.
– Can you clarify, do you mean some original schools, had been deleted, also received second SAR reports even though their names were not on the school list?
Where is this “accepted student ID”? on the FAFSA?</p>
<p>There is a delete school fuction on the fafsa page where you choose what fafsa you want.
Later, when you make corrections, using the “make corrections” function, you do the same thing When your child knows where they are going, you only have to do it for that school.</p>
<p>We haven’t received a SAR email specifically, but we did get a confirmation email with a link which told us the EFC. I’m wondering if it’s now safe to delete the first ten schools and add the others.</p>
<p>Can you log back in to fafsa and view your SAR? If so, it’s safe to proceed.</p>
<p>bumping for 2014 fall students! Extremely helpful information</p>
<p>Bumping again. Good stuff.</p>
<p>Once you receive the SAR for the first 10 schools, you can go in and remove old ones to accommodate new ones.</p>
<p>Thanks for the bump. Just did mine a few days ago, but they’re still in the process of clearing it. </p>
<p>I got confused after the 5th page. So if I do in fact file and have to correct it, do I have to do it twice for both groups (since I have more than 10 schools)? </p>
<p>-sent FAFSA in (will file) 2x
- corrected for the 2nd group (should I correct for the 1st group?)</p>
<p>I can clarify if my question seems muddled.
Thanks. Bump for 2014.
Wish they would just increase it to 20 schools instead. That would save us a lot of trouble.</p>
<p>Now that I filed my tax return, I wonder how long I have to wait before I can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to populate actual 2013 data? Anyone know?</p>
<p>It should be ready about 10 days to 2 weeks after the IRS begins processing returns (assuming you filed electronically).</p>
<p>If you’re getting a refund you can check “Where’s My Refund” to get an idea of how processing is going. Assuming direct depost the tool should be available around the time your refund is scheduled to be deposited.</p>
<p>If you’re paying taxes, you can request a transcript online (free, and doesn’t hurt to have). Before your taxes are processed, it won’t let you complete the request. On the day the request goes through, you can use the IRS Data Tool to update FAFSA. </p>
<p>Haha. Ended up getting into ~10 schools, so it worked out for me.
The IRS retrieval tool is real handy dandy.</p>
So it’s now 1/2015 and I’m facing this problem. The FAFSA website says: https://fafsa.ed.gov/help/fotwfaq14.htm When I called, as they suggest on that help page, to add more schools, I was told they can’t do that for me (even though their help page says they can). They said I needed to delete some schools to make room for the others. When I said that I can’t delete before a school before I know if my son is in at those schools, the guy just said that’s why they tell people to list the first 10 the schools that the applicant is most likely to get in to. He didn’t tell me that those first 10 schools already had the information, so it was safe to delete. When I asked why we were limited to 10 schools, he said he just answers the phone, he doesn’t make the rules. So, I’m scared to delete any schools given that response by a FAFSA customer service representative! Has anyone else tried this waiting and then deleting and then putting in actual tax information then waiting and deleting again for this year? I know it’s too soon to have gone through that process, but I feel the need for assurance before I delete, you know?
Yes I done that for my son a few years back. However, by the time the actual tax information was available, my son had narrowed his search to less than 10 schools. So I only did the file-delete-file process once.
Here is what I’m thinking: People have been using this process of submitting up to 10 schools, and then going in and deleting enough of them to make room for a second set of schools (after getting a SAR for the first set) for a few years now. If it wasn’t working, there would be a lot of comments on here telling everyone NOT to do it that way. I think it sounds ridiculous and convoluted so nobody is comfortable with it, but that it actually does work. We listed our 10 schools this evening. Once I see that a SAR has been processed, I might call a few of the most desired schools and make sure that they are able to download it when they are ready. Then I will delete them and add the two other schools that my student is interested in. Good luck to everyone for 2015!
How do you see that an SAR has been processed? We got an email from FAFSA confirmed the FAFSA is submitted, but does my son need to wait to hear from school’s financial aid offices before we can delete old schools? Sorry, I am fuzzy about this.
No. Very soon your son should receive another email saying that his FAFSA has been processed.
Thanks to everyone for info posted, it has been VERY helpful. We were thinking it would be more efficient to take the time to finish our 2014 taxes and then complete the FAFSA rather than use estimates and update. This would have us submitting FAFSA around Jan 20, in time for Feb 1 deadlines. Is there an advantage to getting this done ASAP?
@4kidsdad So once it has been processed you think we can send it off to the rest of the schools? How do we know the original 10 schools processed/downloaded it?
When I went through this with DS all his schools were EA so we knew where he was accepted to & what merit aid he was offered so we had already cut the list down. With many school getting rid of EA we will not know the bulk of DD’s acceptance status until April.
I’m applying to 20 schools? Can I delete the first 10 and add 10 more?
