FAFSA question- taxes on income for 2016

I just submitted my FAFSA. I tried to use the IRS data tool, but no data populated, so I decided to enter the data. I followed the directions, but its been nagging at me whether I entered the data correctly. It has to do with the taxes on income section (or taxes paid, I can’t remember the exact phrasing) . The directions stated to take lines 56 and subtract line 46 on the 1040. When I do that, the data is 1144. However, taxes paid were 7687, which includes taxes paid on 401k withdrawal (line 59) and self employment tax (line 57). Since the 401 withdrawal is income included in the AGI, shouldn’t the taxes paid on that income be counted as well?

Did the IRS tool say that it transferred data from the IRS? Do the fields say “transferred from the IRS”?
You won’t see the numbers though, because of security concerns.

There is an adjustment for self employment tax on line 27

Did you get a refund of tax paid?

Did you use Tufbotax to file your return? See if you can print out the FAFSA worksheet. It shows the relevant info from your return to enter in the FAFSA.

But you can also try the DRT again in a week or so to see if it works then.

@mommdc IRS did not say it transferred data, it did not say “transferred from IRS”. I will look for the adjustment on line 27, thank you. I wonder if the tax paid on the 401K should be added there as well? I did use Turbo Tax, and will look for the FAFSA worksheet, good tip, thanks. I did not get a tax refund, I owed taxes.

Hopefully the DRT will work later. Yes, the worksheet should help you to fill it out manually for now.
