I completed my 2013-2014 FAFSA because I am going to college as a first year undergraduate. My mom has too low income to be taxed, and my dad works for an international organization (World Bank) so he has no taxes. After I completed it , it said my EFC is 00000. I think that is WAY too low because my dad makes a good sum of money. Is there any possible error I could of put on the FAFSA? I do not want to get in any kind of financial trouble with the government nor colleges because I filled something out wrong. I really feel something is wrong with what I filled out, but when I looked at it, the only thing that looked off a bit was the "Untaxed income" part. I did not enter any numbers because none of the questions they asked about untaxed income applied to my dad.

I’m a little confused . . . my understanding was that U.S. citizens who work for the World Bank actually get extra pay added to their salaries in order to cover their U.S. income tax obligations. Is your dad not a U.S. citizen?

But, yes, with regard to your FAFSA question, I agree - your dad’s income should be included somewhere. If you can’t find an appropriate space for it, call the FAFSA helpline and ask.

Yes, your dad’s income must be reported on FAFSA whether it is taxed or not (assuming your parents are still married to each other).

If he is a US citizen or green card holder, he has to file a US tax return even if he works internationally. He may not owe any taxes if he meets certain conditions for expat workers, but he will still file a return. The income amount reported will be the AGI from the tax return. If your parents are married, it is their combined incomes that must be reported even if your Mom does not earn much.

The only way your dad’s income would not be reported on FAFSA is if your parents are divorced and you live with your Mom,

OP,
Are your parent US citizen or resident alien?

I apologize for any unclear details. My dad is not a US citizen, he has a visa. Under where it says “Put your father’s/stepfather’s income” I put my father’s total income. My parents are married. I will read over the link posted above. I did also include my mom’s income. I will call the FAFSA number and see what they say. Thank you.

So, are you eligible to file FAFSA?
