Quick question about the FAFSA!

Hey Everyone,

I searched for this question on google and on CC, but didn't find anything.

If my parents dont pay taxes at all (we don't file, or anything) because we lived in the US due to my mother's and father's job (mom works for intl org, dad works for embassy) then how can I still fill out the FAFSA or are there any addtnl documents I need to fill out

Thanks

You answer the FAFSA questions as if your parents had filed a tax return. Check the "will not file" box, but answer each question (about income, etc) on FAFSA correctly.

"Even if you (and your spouse) are not required to file a 2007 income tax return, you will need to calculate your earnings for the year. Use W-2 forms and other records to answer the questions in this section."

"If you have not completed a 2007 tax form, you should calculate your AGI using the instructions for the applicable IRS form."

"Income earned in a foreign country is treated the same as income earned in the U.S. Convert all figures to U.S. dollars, using the exchange rate in effect on the day you fill out the FAFSA."

"Include the value of any taxes paid to the foreign government in the "U.S. income tax paid" line item. If income earned in the foreign country was not taxed by the central government of that country, the income must be reported as untaxed income on Worksheet B of the FAFSA and totaled in Question 41."

Does this mean that you are neither a citizen nor a permanent resident? If so, you do not fill out FAFSA at all. FAFSA is only for US citizens and permanent residents.
