FAFSA Question

Hey! So I just got accepted to Northwestern, and on my common app, I checked off that I wasn’t applying for financial aid. My parents originally told me I wouldn’t need any; however, now they’re saying that although they can pay for it, they’d like me to fill out the FAFSA anyway just to see what kind of aid I could get. (My guess is that I won’t be able to get much.) Anyway, my question is this: am I even allowed to fill out the FAFSA, since I checked off that I wouldn’t need financial aid, and also since I probably won’t get any anyway?

If you fill out the FASFA, you will still be eligible for Unsubsidized Federal loans in the amounts of $5500 Freshman year, $6500 Sophomore year and $7500 for Junior/Senior year. Yes you can fill out the FASFA even marking no FA.

Did you apply ED? If so, don’t you have to give your deposit very soon?

NU requires both FAFSA and CSS Profile.

FAFSA is for fed aid, and you won’t qualify for fed aid except for a loan.

Yes, you can submit FAFSA, but if your family can afford NU, then likely your EFC will be too high…and all you’ll get is a $5500 loan.

Are your parents wanting you to take out a loan?

I’m not sure, I’ll have to talk to them about it. But thank you!
