I was accepted to northeastern, and got a financial aid package of 34,600. about 8000 being loans. But this was using only the CSS Profile. Since then, one of my parents have been unemployed for a good half year. and my other parent makes a significant low amount of money. and it looks like i will be paying 17k a year with the current financial aid package they offered me.

if i fill out the FASFA, will i get more money? do you think northeastern will meet 100% of my needs? even if it takes loans? thanks. big dilemma here.

Absolutely you MUST fill out the FAFSA. The sooner the better (if your college wants it and most do). Fortunately, it is much easier than the Profile.

You can estimate for the FAFSA and submit it (which gets you your place in line). Then, as soon as your parents have the 2009 taxes done (encourage them to do them ASAP) you can go in and amend the FAFSA with the absolutely correct numbers.

The FAFSA gets you a place in the money line. No Fafsa, no place in the line. You also want to do a letter to the finaid office at the college to explain your family circumstances – but don’t do that until AFTER you have the FAFSA and all other paperwork in (otherwise you can sound like a lazy whiner).

The fin aid office are not flies on your wall. The only way they know what is going on in your financial life is if you fill out the forms and TELL them. Good luck.

Schools with profile do estimated aid packages based on the data provided in profile. But I though the estimates included all aid the student might get, including federal aid.

junwon you have to file FAFSA to actually receive any federal aid including federal student loans. But I suspect that any federal aid you are eligible for is already included in the estimated award package you have been given.
