FAFSA QUESTION

When filling out fafsa, can I report the income of only one of my parents, even though they’re married? Would I get more aid that way?

oh good heavens!

Are you asking if you can lie in order to get more aid? Do you really need to ask this question?

Can I report only one of my bank accounts in order to get more aid?

What do you think the answer is?

You can put down anything you want but you will not get a dime until it is verified by the IRS. If you want to lie on your financial aid forms and risk losing your admissions, having the Feds criminally prosecute you and your parents and having to repay all of the monies that you fraudulently received, be my guest.

Are your parents separated?

If your parents are living in the same household as you, whether married or not, you are REQUIRED to report the income and assets of BOTH parents on all of your financial aid application forms.

Leaving one parent off to gain more financial aid is FRAUD.

Are you still interested in being a doctor?

It would be a shame to pay for a medical degree then have it rescinded for lying on a financial aid form. Loans would not be forgiven and any grants received would have to be repaid.

You’re already a freshman. What did you report last year? What aid did you get for this year?
