FAFSA - Supported by one parent (who is still married)

Currently my parents are in a difficult situation and my mom is in the process of getting everything done to prepare for the upcoming divorce. My mom is the one who makes the most money out of the two and is the only one supporting my college fund. My question is, do I still have to list my father’s information even though he doesn’t support me?

Are your parents legally separated? If so, and your dad maintains a separate residence…you do not have to list him on your FAFSA. If they are still married, living in the same home, you have to list them both. Even if they are divorced…if they are living in the same home, you list them both.

ETA…are you still planning to attend NYU as a transfer student? If so…all of this might be moot. NYU also requires the CSS Profile, and I believe they also require the non-custodial parent profile.

NYU is notoriously stingy with financial aid.

As a point…the schools don’t really care if a parent plans to contribute to your college funding…or not. The school calculates how much the school thinks they CAN contribute.

I’m currently applying to two schools: Stony Brook University and NYU. Whether or not I’m going to NYU is (well first if I get accepted haha) and how much I have to pay. Thank you for your answer!

Don’t expect much from NYU.
