FAFSA ? with two kids in college

I understand that when you go from one kid in college to two kids in college your EFC would drop considerably for the older kid in college - not in half, but drop substantially. Correct?

Our EFC is $28,200. I think our EFC for each child would be approximately $15,000 when both are in college. If first kid goes to private college (cost @$50,000) and second kid goes to local college (cost @ $10,000) does the first kid's EFC go up because second kid is going to a college that is lower than that kids EFC?

I hope you can follow this!!

For the FAFSA EFC the parent part of the EFC is divided equally between the number in college. But any part of the EFC that comes from student income and/or assets remains the same.

Private colleges usually use profile and will have their own formula. How they treat the extra student in college will vary. They cannot increase the FAFSA EFC. Their own EFC they can do what they want.
