<p>It will be available online January 1st 2011.
THe deadlines will depend on where you are applying.
Some schools also require PROFILE which can be required earlier.</p>
<p>You need to check the deadlines for YOUR colleges. They are all different. Check the finaid section of the website(s) for what your colleges require (forms, tax returns, etc) and the deadlines. They will be there. Write them all down…and don’t assume that the deadlines for school A will be the same as for school B.</p>
<p>Since need-based aid is often on a “first-come, first-served” basis, if you have financial need then you’ll want to file FAFSA as early in January as possible. You can file before your parents taxes are done by marking “will file” status and then you will do a simple update after they file. You and your parents can apply for the required PIN numbers now as they can take a few days to get, read the instructions, do a fafsa4caster (you can save it to miminize your FAFSA filing time later), and generally make a list of the numbers you will need, including the codes for the schools you’re applying to, and have your folks plan to save their final paystubs, bank/investment statements for the year.</p>
<p>Finally, make sure you’re filing on the .gov, NOT the .com, site! Every year there are endless numbers of people filling out their FAFSA on the wrong site, and they don’t realize it until they hit the part where you have to pay…this is the correct link for the official site:</p>
