When can I start mine, because I'm applying for college this year.

FAFSA for the 2011-2012 school year will not be available until January 1st 2011.

Ok. How does FAFSA work with colleges? Do I fill it out, and it sends my need to all the colleges I’m applying to? Or do I have to fax it manually?

You fill it out and list all the schools you want it sent to. FAFSA sends it to the schools you listed.

One thing you can do in advance of January 1st so you are ready to go is apply for your PIN numbers - one is required for the student and one for one parent.

Also there is a thing called FAFSA4caster on the FAFSA site that will let you enter estimated data now to give you an idea of what your EFC will be.
[FAFSA4caster - Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov/F4CApp/index/index.jsf)
It is only an estimate and will only be as accurate as your estimates are, plus it is based on old FAFSA data and may not incorporate any upcoming changes to FAFSA (there are supposed to be some radical changes to the form coming in 2011-2012 but I have not seen any recent updates about what/when/if.)

By the way when you do FAFSA make sure you go to the correct site - **Fafsa.ed.gov **- not Fafsa.com. which is a site that charges you. FAFSA is free.

Ok I should do that soon, thankss!
