where do i put the payments of SSI, Cash Aid, and Food Stamps on the application?

these benefits received...do i not apply the amounts on the app?

If you receive food stamps, eligible for free lunch, etc, you do not have to enter assets. Only basic tax information. Not certain where but there's a place you check and you skip a majority of the questions on FAFSA.

This year you just check the box about whether or not you recieve the benefits. There is no where to list how much SSI you get this year. Last year I had to put the amount my son got that year but apparently this year they just want to know if you get it not the amount.

If you live in certain states (mine for one) you still have to enter all the asset data even if you qualify for simplified needs of automatic 0. You still get the simplified needs or automatic 0, if you qualify.

thanks everybody!

but i'm not the one who gets it my dad receives SSI and i am dependent on it. do i still not enter assets?

it's kinda weird because it's like the only numbers contained in my app is 0s...

Only answer the questions that are asked. The FAFSA is set up to skip things you don't need. It is true that you no longer list many untaxed items that you had to enter in the past (such as untaxed social security benefits - even for parents). The feds have decided that this info no longer needs to be collected.

ok thanks so i just check the boxes of those benefits my family receives..

That's it. You should end up with a 0 EFC.

efc? what does that stand for?

efc=expected family contribution. This is the number federal financial aid is based on. The lower the number, the greater the possibility of grant aid (free money). A 0 EFC would yield a maximum Pell grant (around $4600/year), along with the possibility of SEOG (another government grant), Academic Competitiveness Grant, work study, and Stafford loans.

thank you.
is there a website to apply to all of those grants?

FAFSA is how you are applying for them.

The school gets your EFC from FAFSA and uses it to determine what aid you will get, including federal grant aid, federal student loans, WS. The awards come through the school as part of your financial aid package.
