Hello guys,

I got an F on my english final: a 65 percent. My grade for the year dropped from 92 to 90 percent. I am fine with the end of year grade, but if colleges see the final exam grade, will they reject me? I really didn't care much for the final so I didn't study. It would not have made a difference in my letter grade so I didn't care. I was expecting a B/C, but it was much harder than expected. Such a boneheaded decision by me. Also, it doesn't reflect my intelligence. I missed 4 class during AP exams so I missed a bunch of poems we read. I did not make them up. Consequently 1/3 of the final was on these poems. A very poor decision by me. I am not worrying about the 90%, but if colleges see the final grade what happens? I am looking at top 20 schools.

You took the test. The results are in. Whatever happens is going to happen. You should apply to the schools you want to attend, knowing that, in any case, admission to the most selective schools is not assured for anyone. Hedge your bets with well-selected matches and safeties. Carry on as you had planned to do and the chips will fall where they may.

What is the point of ruminating about this? Simply move on. You can’t change this so what difference does it make what anyone says?

Ask your school if transcripts show final exam grades. They probably don’t. Time to lighten up and enjoy the summer!

Colleges do not see final exam grades, just like they only see semesters 1 and 2 grades. The downside that I can see in this situation is the fact that its an A-. Goodluck and calm down :)

None of my kids’ schools showed anything but the final grade for the year on that last transcript. Ask your guidance counselor what is sent to the colleges at your school.

Ok thanks for the replies. When I did it, I was not worried and blew it off. Then I realized that colleges might see this and I realized the possible consequences of my boneheaded decision. Hopefully it will not show on my transcript. Regardless, I have learned my lesson. Thank you for your replies.

I think that you’re very lucky that a 65% on a final exam grade only brought your grade down by 2%… One more point and you would have ended with a B+

I really hope so. And if you see yourself slipping again next year, just use the Search function for ‘rescind’ and you’ll get lots of threads that should act as inspiration to keep your grades up.

^hahahahaha. Very nice.

Haha thanks for the tip.

Missing all those classes (I assume others did as well) is like waving a red flag in front of your teacher, especially if you didn’t make up the work. You’re lucky that only 1/3 of the final was on that material…keep this in mind in college as well. I know teachers who deliberately put questions on the test from days that lots of students miss class, like the day before Thanksgiving break. ;)

Thanks again for the tips. Luckily, I was only a Freshman so I was the only one absent during this time period due to AP exams. I will keep this in mind as I am sure this will happen in the coming years when others will also be taking AP exams. This situation has been a learning experience that will hopefully will not occur again.
