I got accepted to UIUC (school of social work to be more precise).

I am taking AP Biology as a senior and I had around a B- of 84-85 first quarter. However, now I have around a D in 2nd quarter and I might not even have a passing grade for the first semester.

Hypothetically...

If I drop the class so I don't fail 2nd semester (this is a IF) then will UIUC reject me?

If I have a non-passing grade for 1st semester...but continue my 2nd semester with AP Biology...will they reject me?

There are many factors that go into rescinding an acceptance offer. I would talk to your guidance counselor, as they can be a huge help.

Personally, I got into UIUC last year, but at the same time got a D in AP Bio first semester. I had a lot of extenuating circumstances that I talked about in my application, and even wrote a third essay explaining them. I had something major happen in my family at the end of my junior year that seriously affected my academics, but started working with my guidance counselor immediately after it happened.

What I can tell you, is DO NOT DROP the course, unless your guidance counselor and the university agree that is best. What happens at UIUC is that they accept you based on your freshman-junior year and then your senior year schedule. So UIUC accepted you knowing you are taking AP Bio, but if you need to drop AP Bio, they need to know so they can reevaluate your admission. It might not happen, but they could rescind your offer if you drop AP Bio without telling them.

Continue to try and succeed in AP Bio, work with your counselor, and hope for the best.

I know every case is different, but I got a D both semesters in AP Bio and didn’t get my offer rescinded. It really depends on many other factors than just one class.

I would contact one of the admissions officers and mention that you are thinking of dropping the class. I would stress the other classes you are taking and your good record. I think as long as you inform them, you should be OK. You might consider getting a tutor for the biology class (often the junior colleges have a tutoring center that H.S. students can go to for a nominal fee), or contact a biology teacher at a different high school. Sometimes a different presentation with a different teacher can work wonders. I did this with my daughter and physics and she felt the other teacher just explained things more clearly. Congrats on the social work admittance!
