I have a 51% in this class. I’m a senior already applied to college. I understand the homework and classwork and I’m doing okay with the quizzes but when it comes to the test, my teacher puts stuff on there in a format we have never learned. Everyone is failing and we have 2 weeks to get my grade to a C. Realistically there’s no way I can pass this class and I’m freaking out because
I’m applying to all the UC’s, CSUSLO, CSULB, and UNR and I know a D on my transcript doesn’t look good.
What are my chances of getting into UCSB and all the other UC’s?
How do I even tell my Asian parents I'm failing??
I’m dropping this class next semester for health reasons because it’s stressing me out too much and it’s affecting my overall health.
I need advice on how to talk to my parents and my chances on getting into a good UC
It sounds like you are unsure how you can even approach the material. I think your first step is to meet with your teacher so he/she can give you some advice about how to study, and why you are doing so poorly. Your parents will also understand better if you’re taking steps to remedy the situation.
I’ve talked to her and she’s only allowing 2 retakes on tests I’ve failed but the highest I can get is a 70%. But regardless even if I get a 100% on the final I will still have a D
Seriously? In a class of 30 people there is not one person getting a C or better?
I find that hard to believe. But if its true then you and some of your friends need to get their parents together for a meeting with the teacher, then with the principal if nothing changes.
Can you discuss with with your guidance counselor? It’s not in your school’s best interest to have a bunch of kids rejected from colleges because of one lousy teacher. Also, is there any way you could self teach with books and online resources?
Good luck!
it is a little late so, TELL YOUR PARENTS NOW! then, bring them with you when you talk to your counselor and perhaps principal, see what your options are. They may let you withdraw - especially if you can corroborate that the whole class is failing. Act now though before it is on your transcript for good.
I’d also add a couple of CSUs to your ap list. They are much less likely to rescind based on a failing grade. Assuming you are a competitive applicant for the other schools on your list, SDSU and Fullerton are good candidates.
