I'm currently failing my calculus class. There is no way I'm going to get a D- in that class, let alone a passing grade. CUS Chico has accepted me, but I want to know if failing this class will stop me from going to this college. Would dropping the class be advisable? This calculus class is an elective for me; even if I fail the class, I will still graduate high school.

You should talk to your guidance counselor on how to best handle this. And if you haven’t done so already, you should talk to your math teacher about your options. It’s amazing what 6-8 weeks of directed tutoring can achieve, especially in a course that you find difficult. Through tutoring you may acquire a level of understanding that will allow you to pass.

Regardless of how you proceed, you should talk to admissions at Chico State about this situation. Being forthright can go a long way. Chico State has introductory math courses, including calculus. So you can catch up when you start in the fall.

I would think that dropping the class (which is an elective) would be better than leaving a D- on your transcript. So if you don’t like any of the options, and Chico State admissions is okay with you dropping the course, that’s the thing to do.
