faith and essay

Hey I just have a quick question about my essay. I wanted to write about how my faith as affcted my life but it is going to some colleges that have no religous affilition. Do collges wnat to see essays about faith or is it to risky?

Thi is basically going to be the idea: Bon an raised a catholic, baptism and communion, but was never really a practicing catholic. I went to a public school until 8th grade but it did not play a big part in my life. For high school, went into a catholic hs (amy aunt had went there) and we took religion classes and had liturgy's once a month. Throughout hs i really started to discover my faith. It really affected me.

I could make it into a realy good essay but i dont know if it is to risky to send to a college. Thank you for you help.

My d's friend wrote about a religious topic, sent it to a non-affiliated school, and got in ED.

Besides, would you want to go to a college that holds your religious beliefs against you?

I wrote on a religious topic too and got into Williams.

I think an essay can be about ANYTHING so long is it really goes to the core of who the writer is. Why not write the essay and see how it comes out? I think a faith essay that is about reassessing faith or grappling with faith is a good topic, as opposed to a 'blind faith'-type essay that might depict the writer as noth that intellectual.

I think the main thing with the essay is to make a mental list of the qualities you possess that really define you and see if the topic you choose allows those qualities to come across to the reader. My daughter wrote a very quirky essay on a sort of goofy topic but it really gave a great depiction of her personality and shaping experiences.

If, after reading the essay, the reader would feel he really "gets" you, and--even better-- hopefully likes you, that is a good essay.

As long as it is done well it should absolutely not be a problem. It could be a problem if you are spouting death to heathens or something like that, but otherwise if its a part of you and your life go ahead. They won't hold it against you.

Yeah I did the reassessing faith, grappling with faith one. Honestly anything else might show you to either be a religious zealot or an atheist bigot. The grappling one shows that you know how to look at both sides of a picture.

I think that it would make a good essay. It's about you, not about trying to influence somebody else. It is also a big part of your high school life, and that is what they want to know about. It will also bring out your personality and character in a good way- one of the main goals of the essay portion of the application. I think that it is a fine choice.
