So i’m truly confused by this situation. I will be a freshman at a small state school in Pennsylvania this fall. A few months ago, I joined a facebook page for the class of 2022. It didn’t seem that any of the admins had any connection to the school which confused me. People were posting regularly and all was normal. There was also a group specifically for girls, about 100 members, but nobody ever made a single post. Same situation with admins. At about 350 members, the first page was suddenly deleted. I have NO idea why it was completely random. A few days later, the girl’s group was renamed the “official” class page. New admins. people slowly started joining and posting. a few random people, including myself were made admins and the original admins left. i left the group bc it seemed sketchy but joined again a few days later so i am no longer an admin. now comes the most confusing part. some people have joined the group that go to university of arizona and are clearly sophomores or juniors. they make posts claiming they are looking for roommates. when looking at their instagrams, these people are 20-21 years old from the west coast. i talked to one of these people and he admitted he is not going to my school. i reported these posts and they were deleted, but most of the individuals remain in the group. I am SO CONFUSED what is the point of these posts? they are definitely fake. what is going on?
Can’t help you with that. Talk to someone at Facebook or better yet: talk to someone at the school.
I agree it seems odd. I now at some schools admissions department requires an admitted student be verified prior to them approving the student into the Facebook group. Is this not happening at your school?
The page is not affiliated with the school, which I learned when I messaged the verified school Instagram.
It could be general run of the mill catfish perps, perverts, or identity thieves.
