What is the point of Accepted Student's Facebook Pages?

Hey guys,

As the acceptances are rolling in I have joined the accepted student’s page of the college where I will likely commit. However, I’m unsure as to what to do there, I see people posting photos and information about themselves. Should I do that and wait for people to reach out to me? Should I ask if anyone is going to the business school and connect with them? Should I go through the member list and add cute girls / dudes that look like they’re into what I’m into?

I fear that if I don’t network on it everyone will already have a roommate / friend group by day 1.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many students use it to network for a roommate, even at schools were roommates can be assigned. My DS’s assigned roommates looked for him before he arrived on campus. Unfortunately for them, he was still enjoying his real life and didn’t get on the Facebook page. Their search for him made for very funny interactions the first few months of school.

Be careful as many of these are not run or endorsed by anyone affiliated with the schools. There are kids posting lots of personal stuff and the administrators might not be students, parents, or connected in any way. Try to find the official pages, although these scammer pages often have official in their title. We have found the FB pages very informative and my DD connnected with many people virtually before getting on campus.

  1. You can get an idea of the other students going to your school
  2. You can network for roommates
  3. You can see who else is into your hobby
  4. But keep in mind there are those who will “show off” and and be talking about drugs or such
