Falcon Fest question

We just got invited to attend a program called Falcon Fest where the appointee’s of our state are supposed to get together at a local base for a luncheon. The date conflicts with some previously planned activities (it’s only three days before I day) so I’m looking for comments on whether or not this is a must attend event or not. Note our ALO has already told us he will not be there, so if it’s just a meet-n-greet for everyone else then my cadet will probably not go. We’re also already in contact with the local USAFA Parents Association, so meeting other parents there is not a huge requirement for us…

Can someone advise whether we should change our minds and attend?

Definately not a must-attend. It's nice to meet other appointees in your state but you will have ample time to do so. We missed a few of these-type events in NJ and it was no big deal at all. The parents association is good to know and more important.

One more thing, as someone who went to orientation AND a regular CC poster, you will know a lot more than most of the people who attend this. They would get a lot more from you then you will from them. I found that to be the case at these things. Obviously, it's nice to be able to help the other parents with info but they will get what they need from others.

I agree with AFDAD2010.

My opinion is that events become balancing acts. We are all part of families and that requires "tending to" more than one person. lol I think our kids should, too, be allowed to "finish" up one year, enjoying the ends of that years activities before fully engaging in the year to come.

By the way - there will be so many orgs and events to come with USAFA it will make your head spin. Enjoy!
