I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I was looking ahead to Parent’s Weekend and wanted to know some more details. When exactly is it and what time will we be allowed to see our family? How does it work with the football game? Thanks.

It's on Labor Day Weekend

check www.usafa.af.mil/ and on the right hand side it shows Parent Weekend.

here's a schedule: http://www.usafa.edu/superintendent/parentsweekend/pwSchedule.cfm?catname=Parents'%20Weekend
:)

oops, I guess you'll have to copy and paste it since I don't have mad html skills like az ;)

for lazy ppl like me, here's the quick:

you can meet as early as friday morning after reville and bring family into the cadet area. you're with them basically until you leave after your last function friday (sometimes a parade). you then just have to report in time Saturday to attend the tailgate and march-on, and then leave again

Whoa, that's weird missmuff. I don't think I did anything to make it link like that. Who knows.

My parents came out on Wednesday night before Parent's Weekend and looked around Colorado Springs a bit, then came to meet me at the chapel after class on Thursday so we could visit for a little while. Then they came to class with me on Friday. It was kind of nice getting to see them a little bit early.

i was watching some webguy last night. One cadet acted like he was going to see his girlfriend on Parents Weekend. Is that even possible?

Redhead, your parents came to class with you??? Wow! Now, that's something I want to do! I can't tell you how embarrassing my S might think this idea.

As I remember we arrived Thursday also and got to see D for alittle at her swim practice. Friday we watched a wing parade and then attended classes. The 4digs were give 2 tickets for lunch at Mitch's .After all their classes they were able to leave with us. They only had to report back Sat. am for the football game then the rest of the time they were free to be with us till 7pm Monday. It is a great time!!! Lots of things to do and learn. We were also able to tour Jack's Valley on Sunday!!! That was way awesome to see. Although our 4 dig may not have enjoyed it !!!!!!hahaah!!! It is a great way to spend Labor Day weekend!!

fencersmother - most 4 digs and a good chunk of upperclassmen take their parents to classes, that's part of PW. ;) I took mine both years (and plan to again next year). What more than to watch my mother's face contort in chemistry class. :) Or my dad laugh at the memories of HIS chem classes! :) PW will be a fun time for all!

I'm making plane reservervations...

Is there not a time before Parent's Weekend when you can have guests, post basic? I was wondering if anyone had info on that.

I think (IIRC), that you could visit them in Arnold Hall on a weekend after, but they wouldn't be able to leave. I'm not sure if that's correct, 4 digs please correct me if necessary!

Also, you could see them for 2 or so hours on Acceptance day at best.

Parent's weekend is always a good time to visit the tourist attractions in CO. Along with the rest of the academy, but for your first year or two it might be the only chance your cadet has to go out and visit some stuff they haven't seen before.

One thing to remember when making reservations this year for Parent's Weekend is that the Democratic National Convention is being held in Denver during the week leading up to PW. There will be a high demand for hotel rooms and rental cars. If you haven't booked, yet, it is a good idea to get moving!
Also, plan on arriving on Thursday if you can. We had dinner Thursday night with another set of parents who we met through the forums, then we were able to get over to the Chapel Thursday evening for a quick meeting with our cadet. And, plan on staying until Tuesday morning before flying out. The cadets have to be back Monday evening at 1700, and it is very nice to taken them back then and have time to linger, rather than having to take them back early so you can catch your flight.

Stealth_81

I second what Stealth_81 said, especially if your coming from over 1000 miles. You want to be able and enjoy the time with your cadet and not have travel fatigue. Last year we found awesome tickets and the 5 of us flew out from CA, this year looks like a road trip. Regardless, we count it as a family vacation, COS is a wonderful destination, and our kids enjoyed meeting the other familes and look forward to seeing them again this year.
