Fall 2007 Chances at Top-Tier Schools

Hey! I'm a freshman at a large Big Ten school in the Midwest. I'm looking to transfer to a more engaging and intellectual institution.

High school GPA: 3.75 (Weighted)
College GPA: 4.0
ACT: 32

1st Semester Classes:
1. Biology w/ lab
2. History of US Gov't
3. Journalism
4. Arabic

2nd Semester Classes (to be completed):
1. 200-level political science course (foreign policy)
2. 200-level political science course (comparative politics)
3. Intro. to Nuclear Engineering (and quantitative reasoning)
4. Arabic II

In high school, I participated in:
1. Marching Band
2. Orchestra
3. Literary magazine
4. Math honor society

In college, I am involved in:
1. College Democrats
2. Congressional Debate

I am also nominated for a freshman honor society, made the Dean's list, and have been invited into the campus honors program.

I am looking to apply for transfer to:
1. UChicago (Waitlisted last year)
2. Northwestern (Rejected last year)
2. NYU
3. Georgetown
4. Possibly a small ivy, like Brown or Dartmouth
5. Possibly a small liberal arts school, like Swarthmore or Amherst

Please keep in mind that this is only after my first semester at this school! And please be honest. Last year, I got waitlisted/rejected at every good school I applied to and felt pretty crappy about it.

With a 4.0, you have a great shot at all of them. Just keep that GPA up and write terrific essays.

You're file will be much stronger if you're applying late sophomore year for a junior level entrance (given, of course that you maintain the same GPA).

I was accepted by amherst and i think your the typical applicant for amherst, which means its gonna be harder for you to get in.

Thanks for your advice. Any others? I'm pretty nervous, and I'd like an accurate gauge.

Then apply- it cant get more accurate than that
