Yeah I know Viola, it’s like they make it a point to accept people rather than numbers.

yay at least they are not holding us to a standard of absolute perfection. btw i think that the way college GPAs are calculated with A- being 3.7 is so f***ing harsh. it constantly increases my anxiety.

How much do they look at high school/SATs? Shouldnt these be uselesss since they “predict” college success, and your college gpa should represent that.

The jury has spoken - the high school record is pretty important (at least, more so for sophomore transfers). A 4.0 at one school is not the same as a 4.0 from another, and so the SAT isn’t entirely useless I would think.

I don’t know about bias against city people. To be honest, as much as I would love to be at Columbia and back in New York, where I am originally from, the admissions here is unbelievably harsh.

If the HS is so important, then why bother? if you werent taken in out of hs… why try?

Well, if you were waitlisted in HS or have done something amazing in college, it’s worth a shot.

I don’t think it’s useful to speculate these things as we’ll all just have to wait and see anyways. But I think there could be various reasons. My guess is that the HS record is only an indication of your college performance, not a measure. It helps to know just how rigorous or difficult your college is in instances of the unknown (for example, if you don’t come from a Top 25 school). Regardless, Columbia has already voiced its opinion on all of this.

At the January transfer session, there were two guys (one from George Washington and the other from Brown). I would also venture so far as to guess that there are a lot of people coming in from NYU and Barnard as well. Hope this helps.

Columbia still hasn’t gotten my HS transcript and second recommendation… think they’re still inputting information or should I call?

I’m another transfer hopeful from a top southern university. I only have a 3.7 but its worth a shot!

i’d guess rice or emory.

Rice is my thought =P

Hi OCCtransfer,

I think you should call. I called yesterday about my HS transcript that would not show up on the website and they did not receive it! Although I had sent it with priority mail and I got the delivery confirmation so it’s weird! but I think you should call them just to make sure :)

yeah definitely call. i called today and they were very helpful and nice.

gosh, did you guys see the Yankee’s get dismantled by the Indians? My fellow friends, you and I are the Bronx bombers… and Columbia is the Indians during the 7th inning… Get ready to get owned.
(If you did not watch the game or just hate baseball, please ignore my rant.)

Wow, I think I might have killed this thread with my bad posting!
Apologies friends. On the other hand, everything has been sent in and received by Columbia.
