Fall 2012 Admission Decisions

Well, best of luck in all your admissions processes. I’m hoping they start sending out decisions in the next week or so. I’m still unsure in what form to expect a decision (phone call, FedEx, Postal Service, etc.), given the wide range of answers I’ve received (although it’s all hearsay until one of us finds out!) I’ll be sure to let you guys know as soon as I find out.

I remember hearing on the last wave for spring that it was the phone call and fed ex, but processes change, so…
I also remember about being able to log in to financial aid, and how that was an early indicator, but don’t remember the process Is it through the SSOL with the UNI ID? I tried that unsuccessfully as well.

Oh my! It is Fedex! I am sorry!! I don’t know why I wrote USPS, perhaps it was a mix-up with my Amazon packages. I apologise for causing such panic or stress! I heard about the financial aid being an early indicator as well. I remember reading the website and being so happy that decisions are released in march. MARCH IS ALMOST OVER! This is like nails on a chalkboard. Again good luck to all=D!

:) That’s OK Cosmically. Also the check site is http://■■■■■■■.com/CUFAlogin</a> if anyone was having an issue. Instructions are there.
No luck yet, like I said. But I do get “Refer to code IA.” I’ve got a million things going through my head about what that means.

I have refer to code IA as well. Oh gosh… This makes me nervous. What can this mean? I really loathe suspense. It feels like a horror movie, but horror movies always have a happy ending…usually!

I’ve received that same IA code. I wouldn’t worry about it. Maybe they realized the glitch and fixed it since last semester. Who knows?

Hey,

I just tried the Financial Aid thing and didn’t get any Code 1A; just a notification that my ID wasn’t recognised. Where did you guys see the 1A notification?

on the first time user page: <a href=“(Columbia University) Student Log In”>(Columbia University) Student Log In;

When I enter the CUID to activate: “We are unable to activate your account. Please contact your financial aid office and refer to Code IA.”

From the sounds of things then no one has been put into FA yet…
The freshman CC admits are being sorted out this week I believe; Tumblr is blowing up right now with CO’16 admissions posts. I’m inclined to think they’d square away the CC’ers first and then move on to GS.

Oh, Yeah I got the same thing :/. I hope they send the decisions soon; Eveytime my phone rings with a private number could be a potential heart attack. Good Luck to all

My sentiments exactly. Have you guys applied as transfers? Is there a separate protocol for incoming freshman rather than transfers? (I’ve applied as a transfer student.)

I think GS only groups us into Early Action applicants and Regular Decision applicants. Did you apply to GS or the College?

@hiimafrican: General Studies.

I applied in mid February and the admissions officer contacted me today to notify me of my acceptance.

Congratulations!!! I’ll be hoping for the call–I assume it was a call?

@jacquelinep: did you apply as a transfer?

Congrats on your acceptance! This means the waves of letters and phone calls will start next week for us jmlstern=p! We got this, hopefully =D! It would be a joyful, miraculous event. BUT IT IS A WEEKEND! WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY?! THE TORTURE!!

@cosmically: tell me about it!!!

I received a phone call, private number at around 9:30 in the morning (of course I missed it); the woman left a message and I called her right back. She informed me that Fed Ex would be sending my packet but that she just wanted to let me know that I’ve been accepted. I did apply as a transfer. She said that my admissions exam scores were competitive, with a strong score in technical writing; she mentioned that my autobiographical essay was wonderful to read and that they were impressed with my ability to balance academics and family life. I have kids whom I’ve homeschooled and was 9 months pregnant while sitting for the exam; I also maintained a 4.0 while taking a full schedule of 5 classes, most of which were honors courses while being pregnant and giving birth. My cumulative GPA is a 3.9 because I had received 2 B’s back in 1997- but has been a 4.0 for the last two years in the honors program at a community college. I have no extracurricular activities to speak of. I might add that none of the pregnancy stuff or being a mom was in my essay–> where did they get that info- I have no idea (facebook? or one of my recommendation letters?)

I wish everyone the BEST of luck- it is indeed a torturous wait- but so worth it! The admissions woman was so welcoming and warm-- it gave me a good feeling about attending. Definitely excited!

Congrats jacquelinep on your acceptance and the new arrival to your family! (unless I read that wrong. )

You indeed were competitive.

Goodness, I’m so nervous now…Suddenly, “I hope I get it” from Chorus Line is resounding in my head.

Congratulations, and welcome!

One thing to note, GS doesn’t really think in terms of transfer applicants. Most people have some more recent academic experience, but not all. There’s just one application for everyone regardless.

EDIT: And the CC/SEAS admissions department is entirely different and unrelated to GS. I think about the only thing they share is that there’s only one SAT code for the university. Otherwise it’s different people, different buildings, different applications, and different procedures.

EDIT2: When you go to the academic planning sessions be sure to do the campus tour and the student meet & greet. Great way to get a real feel for the campus.
