I agree. I also think she meant Columbia College. That’s all I’ve seen on Twitter the past couple days. Everyone talking about getting accepted or rejected from Columbia College.

Good luck to those whose apps are already under review! I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown now that the copy of my foreign transcript that I mailed more than two weeks ago still hasn’t been processed. I can’t wait to join the rest of you out there waiting for their decisions to be made. I think I would prefer that kind of suffering to the one I am experiencing now lol

did you call them denbal?

Has anyone heard back regarding financial awards for this fall? Not sure this education is worth the $100,000 plus I will have to borrow…I will be an old man before I can pay that back!

fy, I called on Monday and the lady told me she couldn’t see the transcript in their system but said that they might still be processing it. I’m worried because I mailed it more than two weeks ago. I feel like it should have been processed by now. I just don’t wanna find out later that it’s not there and that I have to mail it again; That would kill my chances to hear by the May 1st…

Ndikuseka, people in this thread have not been accepted yet – we are all waiting to hear our decisions. I don’t think anyone here would know anything about financial aid yet.

@denbal87 Damn, I feel for you man… I would just give them another call today and check where your application is at. If they still haven’t received it, ask them if you can fax or email an unofficial copy of your transcript until the official can be resent. At least that way you won’t have to wait forever for a decision and I’m sure they will work with you. G’luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks nontrad, I did just give them a call. Was on hold for the longest time – I think their computer system was acting up. She still could not locate my transcript and said I should give them more time since it’s really busy right now. But the hing is that I mailed my PTK certificate after the transcript and it has been received. So I have a suspicion it might have gotten lost. I told them I’m gonna try faxing it this time and they said that’s ok.

I know it’s only the beginning of the month, but I already can’t wait!!! lol

denbal87,
I have the same issue. I send my transcripts since February and I called them Monday they said they didnt receive any of my transcripts. I reordered my transcripts to be send to my adress and I will mailed them through fedex to them.

Ndikuseka,
Don’t worry about having a debt to go to Columbia. Having a degree from Columbia is the best thing someone could ever have. It will be worth it afetr you graduate.lol
I love Columbia University!

A good rule of thumb: don’t borrow more money than you expect to make in your first year out of college. Student loan debt follows you forever, not even being discharged in cases of bankruptcy.

Though going to Columbia is cool, a lifetime of debt is not for everyone.

a bit disagree, here we go.
i don’t think we should ‘don’t worry about having a debt’, that debt is huge… for most of the industries you work in after graduate, you will NOT be able to pay back in the near future. a degree from columbia is definitely NOT the best thing someone could ever have, how about becoming the president, or having the first offspring. there are a lot turning points in life that will change us except a privileged education. is it worth it after graduate? depends on your value system. for me that education itself, the experience is worth it all. just ask yourself, for the post 10 years after graduate you have student loans with you will you be happy and still make the same decision by going to columbia today? i know i will but i’m sure a lot of ppl won’t. is it practical, is it the most efficient in this economy? for most majors, absolutely NOT. because ivy league schools were meant to educate rich people who could easily spare $20K (although it’s not the case anymore, it still justifies the super high tuition). the high price is not only for the knowledge which could be easily received from a much cheaper institution, you are here because you want to feel privileged (of course, there are tons of other reasons), even if you have to buy it and suffer the consequences. it’s still sweet, isn’t it, because it’s freaking columbia…

Thanks for the feedback! (Apologies for jumping in and changing the subject of the thread, by the way)
The field I want to go into is not going to help me pay off the debt any time soon, that’s for sure. I didn’t grow up in this country so Ivy status is not important to me but from what I have read, this university is pretty amazing in terms of the quality of education I would get. It is just sad that I have to pay through the nose to get that education. The debt would impact my quality of life financially for a long time after I graduate. Sigh…Choices, choices!! Best of luck everyone!

Has ANYONE seen someone get accepted to GS with a <3.8 GPA? Anyone at all?

@ arockjoe According to the threads from previous years there have been quite a few.

Me- almost…I have an 3.82 average in a community college.

lol I think arock meant below 3.8

It’s not less than 3.8 but the reality is that GS is looking for an entire picture that shows potential. Your academics are important but they are not the only factor they take into consideration. Who are you? What are your dreams? What is your story? Do you have a hunger to learn and to make a difference in the world? THAT is what they are looking for. :)

I am glad you confirmed my hopes, Ndikuseka! My GPA is far from perfect.

…I kinda wish I had my Storybook invitation so that I could get more questions answered by fellow GSers…downside of GS is that their communication is pretty mediocre…I was promised an invitation to the online community four times…still waiting. I have sent a bunch of emails asking questions but only get back an auto reply. I am trying not to be too disappointed by this lack of contact and am hoping that everything will fall into place…

I feel better too, my GPA (unfortunately) is below a 3.8, and I feel better thanks to ur comment Ndikuseka
