TomUSMC, don’t worry about that, I had a similar experience with the application tracker. If you have any doubts, just give them a call and just ask them to confirm that they have received everything and your file is complete.

Congrats to everyone who got in! Good luck to all of you still waiting. I was pulling my hair out until yesterday morning when I woke up to a very pleasant email. Today I received my FedEx acceptance package and now I’m back to studying for finals…
I’m in Ventura County, CA if anyone is from around here

@jamesljb123 I’m not sure anyone knows how exactly LSP works. My best guess is it helps highlight your package and gives a symbolic seal of support from the USMC. I imagine we’ll find out in the same way everyone else does.

@pocketsqman and @h2o1991 thanks you guys!!! it’s tough to keep waiting for a decision when I see all these comments on how youre in if you can log in to the financial aid site. It just makes me wonder where my decision is already!!! And of course whether I really am in. I will keep a look out friday and Saturday like you said @pocketsqman but im checking my email obsessively everyday hahah. Although youre right it does indeed seem like decisions are sent out at the end of the week. I really hope to hear something soon…
@chenzheng how are you trying to log in, through the first time user link? And yeah stay positive!!! I have been able to log in for about 5 days but i still have not received any word. When I called admissions I was told to expect a response - after some uncertainty by the woman on the phone - by latest next week. Have you tried calling and asking about the status of your application?

Good luck to us all still waiting!!! Im so impatient waiting for the decision!!! And by the way, as an international student, how would my decision get to me? Fedex, email, call…???

TomUSMC did you have an interview with Curtis Rodgers (Dean of Enrollment) through the LSP? I believe this alone has to highlight your application. The only stat I found in regards to LSP was that in 2011 200+ Marines were interviewed by Columbia only six applied, all six were accepted.

@jamesljb123 Yes I did. I’ve seen the same article you’re referring to and was confused by the stat. Is it saying that 200 Marines bothered to do an interview yet didn’t end up applying afterwards? I would have thought most that were at the point of interviewing, therefore having applied to the LSP and decided to attend the interview, yet they did not apply?

I have been reading this thread for a while, and some of the information helped me (or distressed me) while I was waiting to hear a response.

I applied for GS, submitted my application mid Feb, and had an interview last Thursday. I could log into the financial aid system on Saturday, and then got my acceptance package yesterday.

I’m not sure if this helps anyone, but I didn’t get any email notification or phone call, only the Fedex package. Also, when I called Fedex on Monday, they said they didn’t see a package coming my way, but then it arrived on Wednesday.

Good luck to everyone waiting, and if you had an interview, I guess they will be sending out letters this week. Also, I think the financial aid login really does work to check if you are accepted, although like some people on this forum I too had my doubts until I got my letter.

It means that in 2010, admissions officers from GS physically went to Camp Pendleton, the commands rustled up all the short-timers with high GT scores they could find, and they were all screened for the LSP en mass and most of them interviewed for GS on the spot.

Its not like 200 people were all actively considering Columbia, got interview offers, flew to NYC, and then 194 of them didn’t bother finishing their applications.

Things work a little differently with the LSP now. They don’t round of Marines en mass anymore. You have to have the initiative to know about it, apply for it, and request your CO to recommend you.

As far as I’ve seen, veterans are not considered somehow seperately from other nontraditional students by GS. All GS applicants are in the same “pool” together. Being a veteran is certainly a very compelling life story, but there are other compelling life stories as well.

The best way to view the LSP is as the equivalent of being a member of an honor society would be for a 17-year old traditional applicant. It doesn’t get you automatic acceptance, but it is one more thing to help you get that second look and make you stand out from your peers.

My LSP interview was with Matthew Rotstein, the Director of Admissions. I googled him beforehand and found a recording online of a webcast he hosted discussing veterans applying to GS, which I watched to help get a sense of what kind of person he was.

@kathy1 I’m sort of international too (Japan), but my package came via USPS about 8 days after it was mailed (via the FPO/APO routing system). If you’re in Greece, for example, and the package is sent USPS, you will eventually receive it but it will have trickled through Greek customs and it’s own mail service.

@jemendez10 They called me about 4 PM (EST) and said :" we have a news for your application to columbia university school of general studies, you have been admitted" there is no more questions, just informing me that i am in

Hey everyone! I got the bad news unfortunately - I was emailed by the admissions officer who interviewed me and he said I had not been admitted. It was a really nice email encouraging me to apply to a community college and seek transfer. He said many admitted applicants are transfer students and he strongly encouraged me to this. I know this is good - it’s not like they flat out rejected me, and he said I could continue to keep in touch with any further questions. But of course, Im really sad about it. I had gotten my hopes up a bit with the whole financial aid login.

I will say, for all future applicants and all others reading this site, it is strange about the whole FA login. From what I saw from all previous admissions threads and this one included, only accepted applicants could log in. But, now the question is there - howcome I could log in if I ended up not being admitted.

Either way, had I gotten in, I knew that the financial situation was going to be a huge other hurdle I would have to face. As an intl student, I would need to take out loans, and for that, I would have needed a U.S. citizen or permanent resident cosigner - I think it would have been worse to get in and realize I could not go because I can’t pay for it all.

@chenzheng CONGRATULATIONS!! And yeah it seems the login works if you DONT click first time user.

Im happy for all you guys who got in!!! The wait is finally over and you can celebrate and relax a little.

@pmilmarines Ok, I see what you’re saying. Yeah I figured a package would like that too - unless it was passed on to the Fedex in your country too. I’m in Spain by the way. And congratulations!!!

So to answer the question another poster left, rejections come through normal regular mail. However, I got mine in the form of an email from the admissions officer who interviewed me. It seems one thing is for sure - all those accepted will get fedex packages. Best thing to do is not stress and just wait it out - you will hear from them one way or another. Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats again to those who are in!!!

Please share your stats Kathy. How many credits have you taken in college already? Did Columbia gives specific feedback on what areas to improve other than go back to school for a bit? I’m sorry to hear about your rejection. Don’t give up, take time to apply yourself to a cc like they suggested and reapply.
