Fall 2014 questions...

This is my 1st child I'm sending off to college come Fall of 2014. My question is for this newbie (that would be me), when does she make her schedule for Fall classes? Will she get to meet with an advisor prior to selecting or is she on her own? Also, she has 2 classes that she had dual credit for in HS, French 3 and French 4, she is hoping to be able to transfer those to Temple. I'm guessing that shouldn't be a problem. Lastly, she will be entering as an Undeclared major, but she has an idea what she wants to do. Would she be able to pick her courses based on the major she is thinking of applying for or are there set courses if you are undeclared?

This is all so new to me. I am a college grad myself, but went an untraditional route so this is all so new. Thanks for any help that you can give!

zebra, check on some other posts as some of them are from Temple students. futuredoctor comes to mind and there is least one other student posting. i’d post ur questions on their pages too. There is some kind of open house in Feb, March, and April if you are able to go so maybe you could get some questions answered there too.

ctl - I saw the current students on this page, but see that their threads are closed, that’s why I posted like this hoping that they would come here and offer any answers they might have. I’m just being a little anxious, but i know we will find out everything all in due time!

yeah, i’ve got questions too!!! they’ll be back, i’m sure. I think she makes her schedule over the summer??? once you pay the $200 enrollment deposit, you start getting info about orientation which will answer of your questions. if she is coming in as honors student, you could get in touch with honors dept for info too.

This may help with your dual enrollment course question: [Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies : Temple University](<a href=“Temple University Undergraduate Studies”>Temple University Undergraduate Studies)

I picked during orientation in the summer. it is better to pick an earlier session because most of the good professors and classes were filled by july 24th (my orientation)

edit: also there are 3 or 4 different advisors in the room when you pick classes with your orientation group.

Sorry, I was on vacation. Always feel free to private message me. At temple, class registration is locked for students until the second day of orientation. It is actually important that you pick the earliest orientation date, so you are the first batch of freshmen to pick classes. However, you can’t pick your orientation til you submit your deposit and complete the placement exams. I was lucky that I got all the preferable professors since I picked the second orientation session. Unless you are in the honors college, you might jot directly meet with your particular advisor however there will be 2-3 advisors in a room of thirty kids and they will be answering questions like how much AP credits could I get or dual credit question. Be aware, all transfer credit including AP and dual enrollment goes through the admissions office. If she has an idea, it is preferable that she start general coursework in the college. Mostly courses are based on major requirements or gen eds requirements. The only course advisors push you to take is English or mosaics. Otherwise, you are free to explore within the gen eds program.
