@Iowabunny2, congratulations! What’s your CSU Gpa and SAT and location?
I think even if I still get a letter today, I won’t be able to take it to heart because there’s always that chance they will follow up with the classic “JK April fools! Actually, we don’t want you, we denied your fafsa, and we took away your citizenship!.. :)”
@heckarad first time freshman!
@Sallyyouna I applied as a transfer student for chemical engineering. Are you a transfer student?
It’s April fourth and I emailed them two days ago saying that my portal still says ready for decision and that I have not received any word of my admissions status. Freshman applicant. Business administration.
@tylander same
@claudia318 Congrats!!! I’m a junior in high school w similar stats as yours wanting to be an animal science major so hopefully I have a shot next year Good luck!!!
Woah how did I get accepted…
Major- Architecture
SAT- 1200
GPA- 3.81
5 APs (and AutoCad course + tech assistant for that course the following year)
Santa Cruz, so central coast
@JoJojenkins yes i am a transfer student. i got accepted in march
@JoJojenkins is cal poly your only choice?
i got accepted at SDSU, still waiting for UC admission before i make my decision. cal poly is 90 mins from where i live and i am not planning to move
@Sallyyouna Cal Poly is my first choice just because I want to be close to home (Ridgecrest, CA 2 1/2 hours away). I I don’t know how I didn’t get in. I’m pulling a 3.8 GPA, all A’s in Calculus. All A’s in Inorganic and Organic Chem. 3 engineering internships, including one at JPL. I’m just curious but what is your GPA? Feel free to choose SDSU or a UC… I want that spot Sallyouna… Hahaha…
@Sallyyouna nevermind. I saw it on another page.
has anyone who is majoring in biology heard back from cpp yet…? i’m getting really nervous
Niece waitlisted for Biotech
UC GPA 3.2
ACT 30
Accepted at SLO (Environmental Science), SDSU (Environmental Science), CSUF (Biochem), CSULB (Microbiolog)
In-state and in local service area. Go figure???
@JoJoJenkins i dont inderstand how you didnt get in?? Defiantly send an appeal letter!
Did anyone get into Architecture with a high school GPA of less than 4.0?? Just curious
@Gumbymom were your niece’s test scores very good because my UC GPA is about a 3.25 and I got rejected by SDSU, CSUF, CSULB, and I am still currently waiting on CPP but I didn’t even get waitlisted.
@buffmelon I’m in the same boat. I applies as a mechanical engineering major and was rejected CSULF, and CSUF, which were actually my back up schools. I was accepted at UCI, and UCR. I’m waiting on CPP. My UC GPA 3.6, but I had a rigorous class load in high school. I am an incoming freshman and was concurrently enrolled at the community college while in high school. I have completed over 50% of my general education including the golden 4, plus all my math through linear algebra which I am currently taking, I also completed community college classes in both physics and chemistry. My college GPA is +/- 3.3 GPA. I have completed over 500 hours of community service and compete in dog sports where I won 2 world championships. I also had solid essay and great letters of recommendation.
I have learned so much during this college application process and once I found the common data set information it started to make sense. Some colleges take class rigor and EC into consideration, CSULB and CSUF do not. In fact many CSU’s only consider two things, test scores and GPA, it is simply your EI and nothing else. So my advice to those planning for college, look at the Common Data Sets for the school(s) you hope to attend and take a look at their admissions criteria. If CSUF was my target school then I might consider taking the minimum number of easier classes where you could get a higher grade just to fulfill their requirements so you can achieve a higher GPA. Consider which honors and AP classes you take, take a maximum of 8 and only take the ones you know that you can do well in. Take the easier courses and minimum course load so you can focus on earning the “A”.
Personally I see this approach as a little disheartening. I strive to live my life always trying to challenge myself and not just succeed at the status quo. I personally enjoy a challenge, but when you push yourself to do more harder work, you do not always end up on top. In my opinion the CSU admission policy encourages is to do the average or minimum at a high standard, rather than push yourself to take the difficult classes and more of them. On the other hand, their admission policies are developed by professionals to select and enroll students that will succeed and benefit from their programs, I guess I’m just not one of those students.
CPP is my school of choice, but if I do not hear from them before April 30 then I guess I’ll be an anteater.
@discdogger: Congrats on your UC admissions and you give very good advice regarding the common datasets. I used them to help my son’s with your college list and also my neice. Also, if you can find the stats on the # of Freshman accepted into each major vs. applied, you can get a good idea of the acceptance rate. SJSU is very tranparent since they publish their EI thresholds for each major every year. I also found the acceptance rate Stats for SDSU and SLO. CPP’s data was 2 years old but it did help my neice change her mind about applying as a Bio major, but then she went an applied as a Biotech major which is also impacted. I know that several of my son’s friends from last year, finally heard Mid-April and they were in the local service area but applied to impacted majors. Good Luck and UCI is also a great option.
Thanks @Gumbymom,
Would you share were you found the admissions data for CPP. I would be interested in seeing the information for the engineering majors, even if it is 2 years old. UCI is a great school, but it is just not my first choice and CPP is such a good fit for me.
