I would be grateful if we can help each other with the essay, but I’m still at the outlining stage…
@uclabruin96 We have plenty of time. I’m planning on starting sometime this summer, but I’m totally willing to read your PS (or anyone’s).
Thanks for making this thread. I’m kinda scared about my chances since I have 6 W’s. I got them because of work and I didn’t know you could be penalized for them later on. I wasn’t endangered in failing, and in fact, I actually got A-B in all of them afterwards and with the same professors. I have 3.6 and plan to have 3.7 by the end of Fall. Major is History but I’m still not liking my chances for UCLA.
@selimpride That isn’t that low, and I’ve heard that all the UCs disregard W’s. Maybe take a summer course or two that you can get an A in?
@naregian Unless I take 8 courses (not counting the ones I’m taking now) and get A’s in all of them by the end of the fall term, I won’t be able to get higher than 3.7
Just got a notice the personal statement prompts are not changing next year. If you don’t remember them, here they are:

Just got my appeal for 2015 rejected. Not sure how to change my application this coming year that’ll make them change their minds
I just graduated from a cc with 3 associates ( igetc and preparation courses included) and a 3.87 gpa.
I have tons of ec work and my family has been disadvantaged even before I was born.
Crazy thing is that My major is only offered at ucla…
I had my English and journalist- major friends double check my essays for me…Which makes me wonder about the methods to a successful application
If ucla doesn’t like me now, I doubt they’ll like me any better in a year.
Im sorry to hear that. Did you call and ask why they rejected you? They might have calculated your units differently. Often it’s something you didn’t even think of. You should ask why, and what it is you can ado to improve our chances next year. What’s the major?
@reinare Ah, I’m sorry! What major, and where are you transferring from?
I know its hard to think about right now, but really think about the extra things you can accomplish with this extra year! You could take classes in anything you want, or join any organization.
Also, I agree with lindy. Politely call and ask if someone is available to go through your application with you, since you are very interested in applying next year.
@reinare Aren’t you an Art major? There must be a specific reason why you were rejected, your stats and whatnot seem to be overkill.
@lindyk8 I actually called the UCLA inquiry office before I submitted my appeal and they could not give me a identifiable reason for a rejection after looking at my application during the call. They said, “There can be one to many reasons why any applicant can be rejected.”
I’ll call again to see if it’s changed at all
@goldencub
I applied as a art major, but i’m a double major in art and asian linguistics( the rare major).
I have associate degrees in art, art history, and Spanish. I’m flirting with the idea of Spanish linguistics as my 2nd major instead of Asian linguistics since it’s pretty rare
@luckie1367 I’m thinking about taking more courses for sure, but not sure if they’ll up my chances.
organizations?like clubs? I’m not part of any club or society at my school…
I don’t know if I can take on anymore EC since I’m busy with the artists I assist and the non-profit organizations & museums that I volunteer for.
If it’s art, did you have to submit a portfolio? If so, that’s probably it. It’s all very subjective.
Asian Linguisitcs… interesting. Were you missing any prereq’s for Art? @reinare
Does anyone know if there is an advantage to doing IGETC vs just fulfilling the gen ed requirements for whatever college you’re intending to transfer to? thanks and good luck to you all!
If any UC-UC transfers need advice with the application cycle, I can help.
Bless you for creating this forum! I’m interested in applying to transfer into UCLA’s Film and Television School (which I know is super competitive and I have a very low chance of getting in) and was wondering my chances of getting in? I’m currently in CC and have a 3.7 GPA and am in the honors program and phi theta kappa. In the fall I also plan on starting a film club and joining the students for social justice club. I have also been a PA, volunteered at film festivals, was the assistant director for a student short film, currently have a journalism internship, reviewed books, and was part of a competitive student program at the Cannes film festival. I am also working on my own short film to submit into festivals, as well as writing my own screenplay. My ACT is a 28, but I’m looking to get it up in the 30s. In high school my GPA wasn’t as good, I got a 3.53 and got a few C’s my sophomore and junior year, but I was wondering how much that would affect my chance of getting into UCLA?
I love that movie/book series
Here is the average for UCLA Film/TV https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#TFT
UCs don’t consider ACT/SAT scores, no do they consider HS GPA (unless you took CC classes in HS)
Do you guys think that having a high GPA and completing pre-reqs will make up for the lack of EC’s (none). I’m an engineering major.
@lopapo yes
