I currently go to school at UC Davis and I’m planning to try transferring to UCLA for Math/Economics and I was just wondering how competitive is that major. I absolutely love it here in Davis, but since my family lives near UCLA, it seems expensive for me to be paying rent in another school. I really hope to be able to go back home so my parents wouldn’t be spending that much money on me. Having said that I highly doubt I’ll have a shot at UCLA since it’s one of the top 10 universities in the world, but I’m willing to give it a shot because you never know. I’m currently an Economics major in Davis, but since I hope to go to grad school, I feel that my Econ major would not have prepared me well enough for graduate school. I’m definitely relieved that UCLA has a program like that. I have roughly a 3.4 GPA right now, hoping to pump it up to around a 3.6 by next spring quarter. Will I have a shot?
What will it be by the end of the fall quarter? UCs calculate GPA for transfer students up until the Fall quarter before transfer.
Here are the stats that UCLA puts our: https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#MN
Hi there! I am transferring to UCLA from UCI this fall and I am a math/econ major My GPA was a 3.65 when admitted, but note I was admitted off the waitlist. Math/econ seemed to be more competitive than usual this year.
@luckie1367 I sincerely hope it’s going to be above 3.6 up until the fall quarter before transfer. Do UCLA take into account summer sessions courses in 2015 prior to fall 2015 admission as well (I assume not)? Anyway, how much of a chance I got to get into UCLA as a math/econ major with a 3.6 GPA, will I be better off applying for the Applied Math major?
They do consider the summer session courses! Its everything up to the Fall.
You also have to submit a January update (thats how they know what you got in the fall, since you just list it as IP (in progress) or PL (planned)). Some people had short winter sessions that ended before Jan 31, and were able to count those grades too!
@luckie1367 Thanks so much for clarifying that!
