Yeah hi literally just had a panic attack seeing UCLA’s email in my inbox.
Thought they already denied me lol :((
@nopiollaga Yes, they will be. All of your grades through spring quarter will be counted.
Also, I definitely freaked out about the UCLA e-mail!
Hey guys, I have been looking into college confidential since I started community college. I have applied to transfer and I am nervous because my GPA is not great at all. Please chance me!
Anthropology BA Major
Overall GPA: 3.3, Hopefully a 3.4 after this semester. Major GPA: 3.0(Anthro BA only requires two classes for UCLA and I got a B in both :(, but I am taking the third one so they can see I at least did more then they asked for, right now I have a B but if I do well in the final I will have an A).
In the Honor’s program, will be TAP certified in the Spring. Alt. Major is Gender Studies.
I am a Care-Extender at the UCLA hospital, I am also part of the STP at UCLA (They help you with the transfer process and I heard it increase your chance of getting accepted to UCLA).
I took part in the 15th Annual Student Research Conference for California Community College, hosted by UCI. I discussed the current living condition of child soldiers in my home country.
I am a founder and president of a club on campus.
Also a Vice-president of another club
Part of the Student Government (Was a senator for a year and a half, currently the senate clerk and and assistant commissioner)
I also tutor a child at a salvation Army.
I volunteered with Hospice for one year.
And I am an English tutor at my college.
PLEASE CHANCE ME, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
@smilerose In 2014, the acceptance rate for your major was 65% with an average GPA of 3.54. It looks to me like, with all of your volunteering and connections to UCLA, you would stand a pretty fair chance. Of course, I can’t say for sure, but you’re quite close to the average admitted GPA. I would definitely work on pulling it up as much as you can, though. Check this website out for more information regarding transfer statistics: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm
Major: 4.0 Overall: 3.46
I have been at two schools (Cuesta College, West Valley College). I did poorly my first year at Cuesta (2.9 gpa, took econ/accounting classes) because my uncle was dying of cancer so i spent a lot of time helping my family.
After my first year I dropped out of school. I wrote a patent application for some technology and founded a startup, sold the company for 6 figures to an investor in the Silicon Valley.
After selling the startup I went back to school and got my act together (academically). I have a 4.0 GPA in all of the EE pre-reqs (Calc1-3, Diff Eq, Lin ALg, Physics1-3, Chem, C++, English 1A&1B) but my overall gpa because of my poor first year performance will only be a 3.46
Academic EC’s: Co-Advisor Entrepreneur Club, STEM Club (Member)
Internships: Cisco Engineering
I’d like to know what “slack” UCLA would give to me as a transfer students about my bad academic performance given that I got all A’s in much harder classes related to my gpa and have a ton of experience in the real world of engineering. Would they see the light in my upward trend? Does my personal statement have any merit? Do they only look at my major classes when calculating GPA? Thanks for any advice, I really appreciate it
@incogneato thank you so much! Yea I am really nervous about everything. UCLA has been my dream school for as long as I can remember. I even asked a lady that works at the UCLA admissions office to read my personal statement, she told me it was really good. She asked me to make little changes and I did, sent it back to her and she said I am on the right track. All I can do is pray and pass these finals so I can get a 4.0 this semester. Thanks again!
********AND also, this email you guys are saying you received regarding UCLA stating they received your applications. I did not receive any email from them, should i call them? I even went online to double check if I put the correct email.
@smilerose When did you apply?
@incogneato I applied on Nov.28
Hi! I’ve written on here before but didn’t get a response I was wondering if someone could please help me!

Sociology and history are both impacted so I’m worried about my chances for UCLA, my dream school.
I’d really appreciate your opinions!
thanks!
@sbccstudent19 it looks to me like you have a solid chance.
@smilerose As long as you got a confirmation e-mail right after you applied, I wouldn’t worry too much! You can always check in on the UC App website to see when they actually received your application. I sent mine on the 26th, so I think they may have received it a few days earlier before the inundation.

Any opinions would be appreciated thanks.
@incogneato Alright, thank you so much for your help!
@sbccstudent19 I would say you are probably in for at least one of your majors. Probably your first choice based on the past acceptance rate and average gpa admit.
I just visited UCLA, and the campus is as nice as I remember. Although most people say the campus is very hilly, it’s not too bad?
LA is surprisingly cold right now (El Nino).
@AndyCandy
Your chances look good with TAP in my opinion.
@goldencub
If you decide to go to UCLA, be aware that your legs will hurt for the first couple of weeks in Fall quarter because of how hilly that campus is.
I’m only half-joking when I say that.
@Cayton Maybe I’m used to walking in hilly areas. The walk from public transit (BART) to my class at CCSF is pretty brutal.
Intercampus UC transfer from UCM looking to transfer to UCSB, but I also applied to UCLA
-3.48 GPA after fall, 3.29 before fall
-Gender Studies Major, Chicanx Studies Alternate
-ECs: currently a Resident Assistant, very involved with Student Government
-7 Course pattern: completed this fall
-Will have over 60 units done by end of spring
-Personal Statements: Ok?
Q: will your chances of admission fall if you don’t have major prereqs done even if your university doesn’t offer them? including all the “local” Community Colleges?
@UCMtoUCSBHopeful
I’d say you’re a strong candidate for both schools.
And no, UCs won’t hold it against you if the classes you need for a major aren’t available at your school.
If you get accepted, you’ll have to take those lower-div classes at the school to which you’ll transfer, though.
According to UCLA’s transfer admission profile, Gender Studies applicants in fall 2014 had an average 3.4 GPA, so i’m glad i’m at the threshold (i’m hoping that doesn’t change too dramatically this application cycle)
I know UCs value upward trajectory, so hopefully UCLA will take that into consideration.
Either way, UCSB is my goal! i only applied to UCLA to see if I could get it. But still, thank you @Cayton !
