SDSU is one of my D18’s top choices, and my main concern is whether or not she will get the classes she needs. My understanding was that freshman used to register after seniors which somewhat ensured a solid start schedule wise at SDSU. Just talked with admissions who confirmed that under the new system, incoming freshman will now register at orientation and well after returning students.
Really hope that they get this right and reserve spots in classes or add classes as needed but have some concerns.
No worries. The colleges know full well what each entering class needs. They will have plenty of sessions of English 101, Calc 101, etc.
They do this every fall. It is a well oiled machine.
@MassDaD68 thanks for the response and hope you’re right!! Guessing this is how it typically works at most schools, but new approach for SDSU.
While I’m grateful that they are AP/DE friendly, my D will come in with 45+ credits and many GE’s done, so last to register for higher level classes concerns me but we are all game for 8 am classes and evening classes and whatever else others don’t want!
Oh wow. 45 credit! congrats to your DD. Hmmm. I see your question more pointedly now. She is basically a second semester sophomore already.
All you can do is hope and pray that you are not part of a failed experiment if this whole change blows up.
Be sure to let her know that you can also add/change classes during that first week. So if the class is closed during registration, it is possible (slim chance) that she can visit the prof and have her schedule changed with prof permission.
Good luck.
