@lolhalp They kept saying that we just have to met the requirements for LEP.
Even though I had all the courses done at my cc(OOS). They even refused to look at my profile.
@butterman0613 @flotussin I received a response this morning. They were very helpful and even looked at my transcript. I’m missing one of the math requirements for my major and they told me that once I’m done with it, could be in the summer or with them in the fall, then I’d be placed in my major. Kind of annoying that they made the mistake of telling me I got into my major but it’s understandable I guess.
@flotussin Apparently the CS department does not allow you to transfer any of the cs courses you took in cc except CSMC250(discrete math). You will have to retake CSMC131 CMSC132 and then meet the LEP requirements to switch your major.
@butterman0613 that’s not the information that I was told for my specific case. it is possibly different for everyone but I have to take one course in order to be admitted into the major and it’s not either of those.
I finally got my acceptance letter today!
What is the salary for a programmer who went to Maryland?
Does anybody know how the housing process works for transfers? I got my finaid delayed so I won’t be able to confirm housing for the next week or so. Not sure if I should place my hopes within UMD to give me housing or to look off campus.
Got my official letter in the mail today.
@MaplePecanFrap You can apply for housing before accepting admission, but by May 1st. Whether you get it depends on if you will be a sophomore (maybe) or junior (probably not).
@lycoris When you received your appeal letter did it mention the appeal? My mom doesn’t know that I appealed and thinks I never got my original letter. she would get mad at me for not appealing other schools so I’m hoping to keep the “appeal” part a secret.
Does anyone know where the transfer group chat is?
Okay so I can’t post the link to the groupchat for whatever reason but it should be in the thread if you look a little back. Also everyone should check your emails because a few of us have been told we’ll get housing assignments.
Aerospace applicant, just got my decision today (there was an error with my review and I was reviewed with priority but late ergo I received my decision now). Letters and sciences for the second straight year. Pretty disappointed as I had a 4.0 GPA across 59 graded credit hours at the time of admission.
I got into Georgia Tech for the summer and am here now and have other options with other acceptances (virginia, usc, ucla, uiuc) even though I will likely stay at GATech I’m glad I have other options.
@Marylandpride Hi! I didn’t have appeal mentioned in my letter. They actually send you an email that notifies you if your original admissions decision has been overturned or not. Mine was pretty generic, only one or two lines. To be completely honest with you, the chances that they will accept and overturn your appeal is slim but there are always rare occurrences. It doesn’t hurt to submit one.
Hey! I completed the google form for the group chat, but I am not sure how to find it on groupme…Can anyone help me?
@lycoris I am hoping that I get some good news. They requested my final grades for this semester and I definitely improved. I think that might be a good sign? I just wish I knew if this was something they typically do or not. They have had my appeal for a month now… I don’t know what to expect lol.
@Marylandpride If they’re asking for your final grades that seems like a good sign! I hope they overturn your decision and you’ll be joining us at UMD this fall. I did my appeals as a senior in HS so the process may be different now as a transfer student. But nonetheless the fact that they’re communicating with you is a great sign. I basically had radio silence. But also, as a senior I did my appeals and also had 2 Dean’s write letters of support, a letter of recommendation from my high school principal, I re-did my resume, and met with several admissions officers to discuss my application. And after all of that, I was still denied. So don’t be discouraged if the result isn’t what you were hoping for. Come back stronger and I know that you will get in, don’t give up and never settle for less.
Has anyone started looking for off campus housing?
Does anyone know if there is any on-campus housing still?
I don’t know specifically about this year, but my S transferred last year. They had no housing available for transfer students and even didn’t have enough for the freshmen. Unfortunately they waited until the middle of August to let us know. He got lucky and found a decent apartment, but we paid a lot more than expected for housing.
It would probably be a good idea to make arrangements for off-campus living.
