My daughter’s top choice is Northeastern and will be applying ED. However, at the same time she will also be applying EA at some other schools. She says her ED decision will come out around December 15th. But my question is when the other schools release EA ?And once you get a ED decision (if it’s positive) do you ignore your EA schools or do all decisions come out around the same time. And does the ED school (Northeastern) immediately ask you to commit ? Thanks
@RonaldP66 ED is binding and she will be committed, if accepted unless you can prove financial hardship. ED is not a choice - it is a contract of attendance if accepted.
For EA, depending on the schools their decisions may come in on different dates. If she is accepted ED to Northeastern, she must contact the admission offices at her EA schools and withdraw her applications.
Does EA ever come in before the ED decisions or is that a school by school thing ?
Maybe, but it shouldn’t matter. ED is a 100% commitment to attend and pay if accepted. You do not apply ED as a”might attend” as you wait for EA and other financial offers. Your school counselor would most likely get involved, as it will reflect poorly on your child’s current school and other applicants if you are fishing. You can google ED vs EA for a lot more info.
What are the other EA schools you are applying to? It may or may not come before Dec 15. ONLY ED to NEU if it her top choice and you can afford it. EA is non-binding, meaning you don’t have to commit there if accepted.
NYU, Boston University, UCLA, UCSB, and Stanford.
You need to check your list - as far as I know unless it changed Stanford is REA =
Restrictive Early Action and you are not allowed to apply EA or ED to any other private school or ED to any Public college if you apply REA to Stanford. You do not have to accept until May 1st with EDA and are welcome to apply to additional schools in Regular decision.
For ED - you are committed if accepted and must withdraw all other applications.
Your high school will only submit your records as outlined in the University rules to one ED or REA school. If not accepted ED or REA, some schools offer an ED2 round.
I believe both BU and NYU only have ED too. The California public schools don’t offer ED or EA. (but confirm, as I could be incorrect with all the changes)
