how greatly will having family alumnae at Columbia boost my chances of acceptance?

My GPA and test scores are really low for Columbia, but my EC's are pretty strong. but i probably need the gpa and scores if i wanna get in.

My aunt and uncle went to Columbia..does that boost my chances by a little or alot? if it's not that much, then i will not apply to columbia. if it is, i will. i really wanna go to columbia, but i don't wanna apply there if i know i have like no chance lol.

Truthfully, having an aunt and uncle who went there is not very significant legacy and won’t boost your chances very much. It’d be a much different story if both your parents went there. That being said, I would say apply if you know about Columbia and like it. Sure, you may not have the best chance, but applying only because you have legacy that may boost your chances it not the right reason.

I feel that your approach to the whole college applications process is fairly skewed. You say that you will only apply if your legacy (and I’m not even sure if Columbia considers aunts and uncles noteworthy of the legacy factor) will help you. I think you should focus on your achievements and qualifications that you yourself have worked hard to obtain. This is a much more positive outlook and the focus on you will help you explore yourself and truly show who you are in the whole college applications process.
