Family Contribution for NEU MUCH higher than every other school

Now that all of my son's college acceptance's are in, we're going through the process of comparing them. I've pulled the financial aid shopping sheets for the four schools in contention and I've notice an anomaly for NEU.

Two of the four schools are public and two are private. The family contribution for the public schools are most likely based on the FAFSA information and are identical. The family contribution for the other private school is likely based on the FAFSA + CSS profile. Their number is approximately 10% higher than the FAFSA-based public schools. Fine.

The family contribution for NEU is about 73% higher than the public schools and about 54% higher than the other private school.

Has anyone else seen something like this with respect to NEU? I'm planning to call the financial aid office to see if there is some mistake. Figured I'd check here first.

I’ve seen the same thing. Our FAFSA EFC was about 70k and Northeastern’s was about 93K, which is a solid 33% higher, which I definitely was not expecting. I was expecting that the CSS would help not hurt us because the FAFSA doesn’t take debt, mortgages, etc into account. We are definitely going to be appealing.
