family income and applications for aid

If the family income is over $150,000 would that make it almost impossible to get aid? Is it still worth applying?

Only the richest schools will give any ‘need’ aid for that. But you can still get an offer of ‘merit’ aid.

Everyone should fill out the FAFSA. 1) to get Stafford loans and 2) some schools require it to ne considered for merit scholarships…there’s no downside, except losing the 30 minutes or so it takes to fill it out.

This student is an intl, I think.

Yes, @adkdad the student is international and not eligible for FAFSA. He didn’t say here but in another related post. My answer was specific to him, but otherwise you are right.

To the OP. It all depends on where you are applying to colleges. Some schools do give need based aid to international students earning $150,000 or so…but they are the most competitive for admission, so you have to cross that hurdle first.

And for international students…at many schools, if you do not apply for institutional aid as an incoming freshman, you cannot do so in future years. You know…anything could happen in future years. Loss of income, etc.

I would suggest applying as an incoming freshman.

In 2011 this student said he was going to go to Parsons. If so, then he’s not an incoming frosh.
