hi :]
i was just wondering how informative the parent orientation sessions are, b/c my parents are not planning on attending them. btw, i am in muir. thank you!

In orientation, from what i heard from last year students, its just getting to know the campus better, getting triton card, and whatnot, my parents aren’t coming either, don’t think they need to.

Mostly all the information that is important for them, I will be relaying it to them.

Some things they tell parents -

Your kid will likely not get the kinds of grades they were used to in HS and to not worry about it but rather, support the kid. This fact can be stressful for both the student and the parents but they’ll get past it.

Your kid will likely sleep through one exam. It happens to a lot of students - usually once.

Don’t call the kid every day or so on the phone. Let them be and they can contact the parent when they wish.

They have additional tidbits like this - mostly in support of the student but necessary advice for a lot of parents who also need to deal with the fact that their kid has now gone away to college. Hopefully the kid will realize that they’re not the only ones going through a transition but the parents are also and will provide a bit of support for the parents as well.

thank you for your replies! :D

I am going to parent orientation because I have to be there anyway to provide transportation. What better way to spend my time? I agree the agenda seems generic but I’m still hoping for some useful information. I won’t go so far as to stay on campus!

Oh - I also got to square dance with my D (Muir) - the first time for either of us.
