Falconpride.com has a wonderful email message board for parents of cadests called Fament that has been very informative to me and giving me great insight of what to expect. I have also found my Son’s roommates parents and 3 other sets of parents in his Academic squadron. Check it out.

I have been on there for a week and it has been great to meet families in same squadron as my son and to here about Acceptance day, Acceptance packages and several other things that I knew little about. As with any message boards, there will be 1 or 2 comments that are wrong or inappropiate ( out of about 50 comments a day). And they are usually obvious or pointed out by others. But for the most part, it has been very helpful and informative. They have also started a "Beat the Beast", post card mailing, spritit mission for the Basic.

The post cards are pretty cool to get at the end of BCT, as basics tend to get a TON of them (same with birthday cards if you submit their birthday). Overall, I don't think Famnet is inherently bad, but some of the info can be questionable sometimes. ;)

10smom: I assume then that although the website appears dated (most links from www.falconpride.com haven't been updated), that it is otherwise current w/respect to emails, etc. Once I've signed up, do I just get emails or is there some kind of "board", similar to this one?

The web site is dated, I am not sure why they are not keeping it up. But I think that the email messages are so infomative and instant (if you choose deluge over digest) that I think they have choosen to let the local parent clubs focus on local web sites. It is well worth the money. Every question is answered quickly and there are parents that have been on there for years. If you have problems getting on please private message and I will send you the email information. Also 2010 parents do not have to pay until Sept 1st.
