Do you have to fill this form out? I have heard yes and no.
It is optional. You can pay full price if you like. But if you are seeking financial aid you will have to.
Some schools require it even if you don’t qualify for financial aid, if they award a merit scholarship. Check with your school.
I’d say it’s a good idea to file FAFSA if you might qualify for state aid even if your parent income is too high for federal grants or work study.
Also if you need to take out federal student loans you need to file FAFSA.
Why are you asking?
I have read (I think) that although the form is optional you must fill it out to get any merit scholarships. Therefore, it is de facto compulsory unless you want to forego any form of aid or scholarships and lust pay 100% out of pocket.
How much can you pay each year for 4 years?
Some schools require you to fill it out for merit money, not all. It can’t hurt to fill it out even if you do not qualify for FA, in case you decide you want loans.
Most schools do not require FAFSA for merit consideration. However, some do…so if your schools require, then fill it out.
I was asking for my sister. We have heard yes and no from other people, so I thought I would ask here. Thanks for your replies.
