FIT says on their website they look for a 3.2 GPA, they don’t look at SAT or ACT scores, and for my intended major (fashion design) the most important factors are my portfolio, my GPA, and my essay.
Demographics: hispanic female, out of state
GPA: 3.1 weighted (GPA got significantly higher by each year) and I took around 5 honors classes throughout junior and senior year
Portfolio: I have many sketches that are decently above average, I will be turning in photos of a well made pleated plaid skirt, and 2 well made tops (good, but not amazing).
Extra Curricular: I did varsity cheerleading for 2 years
I also completed precollege courses at FIT 2 summers in a row
My website is Kelseybliss.com which serves as a form of a portfolio for them to look at my work over the years
My essay is about how my family fled Cuba during Castro’s rule and how sewing was a form of self-empowerment taught and passed down generation to generation, and also about how that self empowerment is what helped me to do better in school each year and I found it through fashion design, even though I struggled with ADD and a learning disorder. My ability to write essays is actually very strong so I’d say it is a well written essay, that was also revised by many people and English teachers. So this is assuming I have a pretty impressive essay
Any opinions on my chances on getting in? FIT has about a 46% acceptance rate.
