Hopefully, those are the guilty ones. It would certainly give some peace to Paul DeWolf’s family and loved ones.

Seems one of the suspects, visiting from South Carolina, had family ties in Washtenaw county:

I just feel like there’s so much of the story missing. Maybe I’ve missed it, but what is the motive??

ETA: Nevermind, one says a home invasion gone awry. I guess it just doesn’t make sense though. Why target a student?
I guess it’s just still a gut feeling that somehow this wasn’t random (not in any way am I saying the victim did anything wrong, but it just feels like there’s some other connection)

How did they link the suspects to the homicide?
I’ve read it a few times over and all it says that Joei Jordan had an Ann Arbor taxicab business card and Michigan cup? Tons of people visit the university every year. Michigan stuff can be found just about anywhere. Maybe the bullet of the guns match? Dunno, if these two are strong enough evidence together. Maybe they tested his clothes/belongings for remnants of DNA?

edit: oh, investigators got tipped off

“I guess it’s just still a gut feeling that somehow this wasn’t random (not in any way am I saying the victim did anything wrong, but it just feels like there’s some other connection)”

There doesn’t have to be a connection. All that is necessary is for someone to have a lack of respect for his fellow man and a human life. It could very well be that that was the motive for the killing.

rjk, I get that, but 1- most crime ISN’T random (despite what the media wants you to believe)- even thrill kills generally have a targeted person or population and 2- why this particular student? Was he in an easily accessible place? Was there reason to believe there was something of value in his apartment?

There are plenty of places in AA that could’ve been randomly targeted that would’ve had a better take. Plus, didn’t the initial reports say nothing was stolen and nothing looked out of place? Did that change?

I want real answers for the family I guess and there are a lot of things that just don’t fit. More will come out during the trail that should hopefully put the pieces in place.

I read the articles, but I don’t understand what evidence led to the arrests. Where was it that they police were tipped off?

I will say I never liked that medical fraternity where DeWolf lived. It looked like a mansion, was deserted, and had no shades. You could just see into a deserted mansion at night. If this group didn’t know the city well, they might try a break-in and not realize that at least one student will still be home. It is not implausible that this was just a tragic random attack.

I don’t know if it was related, but I heard that a group of people responsible for many break-ins in Ann Arbor over the last several months were recently caught just a week before the announcement about Dewolf.

See it’s things like that that make this make more sense. I didn’t know that. I assumed it was just any old room in any old building.

There’s obviously much more to the police work than we’re hearing about yet. I suspect the gold Chevy Malibu (probably with South Carolina plates) and the stolen guns are key pieces of evidence. My guess would be forensic work linked the gunshot wound to one of the guns that had been reported stolen (in or around Ann Arbor, probably shortly before the shooting?), and eyewitness accounts linked the gold Chevy Malibu to either the theft of the guns or the scene of the murder, or both. And it sounds like they must have had the license plate numbers on the car; otherwise, a routine traffic stop for excessive noise wouldn’t lead police to go to suspect #2’s apartment. We’re told there was already a warrant out for suspect #2 who was arrested at his apartment after police stopped the driver of the gold Chevy Malibu, which suggests suspect #2 was the registered owner of the car which had somehow been linked to the crime. In the course of that arrest they found the stolen guns, which must have been evidence. From tracing the car to suspect #2, it’s just a matter of piecing together who else was hanging with him while he traveled to and was in Ann Arbor, which various friends, acquaintances, and family members could have supplied.

The Ann Arbor and University of Michigan paraphernalia found in the possession of suspect #1 would then just be minor bits of corroborating evidence. Very likely the police already knew who the three suspects were, and the first one arrested just happened to be the first one they found.

I’m not saying this was an easy case. It sounds like careful, diligent police work, for which the Ann Arbor Police are to be commended. But we’ll certainly learn more in the weeks and months ahead.

If you search up, Joei Jordan on Facebook.
He put is “Lives in…” as Ann Arbor.

Looks like he was born there/grew up there for part of his life? Either way, maybe he was up there to visit family/friends.
