Favorite AP World Themes?

What were your favorite themes or subjects covered in AP World?

For me, I would say the Cold War era and the Age of Enlightenment were the best because they were easy to appreciate, and I liked the whole style of how they differed from previous eras in history.

I’ve always liked the Greeks and the Romans, though probably just because I have an extra appreciation for them after spending an entire year on basically just those two civilizations in 7th grade. I figure they actually got government right and, in the case of the Romans, their technology was amazing - they were only maybe 300 years of innovation away from us today… Had the empire not collapsed we could be who-knows-where in terms of technology.

I also liked the Renaissance because people began to break free of the restraints that had fettered them to stagnation for a millennium.

Everything in the West post-1800 or so was particularly fascinating, but maybe only because I had never learned it before. I’m with you there, Eddie, the Cold War era was great.

the MONGOLS. The Mongols are just so boss… Ghengis Kahn was crazy awesome, even though he was pretty, eh, crazy. Hahaha

You know it’s funny, because I do like the Mongols a lot, but my teacher has like a man crush and we spent like 1 month on the mongols alone, so it got pretty boring eventually, haha. Buttttt, it did help a lot for the AP exam!

Yeah, I think the MONGOLS are pretty darn amazing.
I also found myself laughing when I read about the Opium wars in China. haha

OP, you should definitely take AP US History next year if you’re interested in the Cold War. I don’t think AP World did it justice. =)

I totally loved learning about the Classical Age of China and India. Perhaps because I can actually understand and connect to those topics. I also like the Age of Exploration, Industrial Revolution, and Cold War!

Imperialism, WWI, WWII, Cold War, Enlightenment, and the Mongols. The Mongols were so much fun to read about.

I have never taken it before, is slavery on the exam?

I can’t really say until I get my scores back in mid-July. I may either hate or love a certain time period depending on the score. You know…

lemone: Maybe maybe not, depends on each year  But we DO study it!
