Favorite Books/Movies/Entertainment ++ AP Scores?

Hi guys, for this part of the application regarding the "favorite books etc.", is it wise to put only 3-4? The first section asks for "List of books you've enjoyed in the past year. You can put more than one per line". I truly enjoyed a lot of books (im an avid reader), but does putting 3 books/line = 9 books total definitely over doing it?

And with regards to AP scores, we don't need to send in the official report for admissions do we?... I was under the impression they were used primarily for placement purposes and you self report your scores on your Application. Thanks!

How were you able to fit in three books on one line?

Did you not include the authors?

1) I'd include the authors, as in "Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, Shalimar the Clown by Salman Rushdie", etc.

2) For actual credit, yeah, you'd send an official AP report after making your decision. However, for admission itself, a bundle of good (read: 4s and 5s) scores can be proof that you understand the material on a deep level and clearly had a successful class experience. In my own case, they probably helped mitigate the fact that my grades were not top-notch, by showing that I really did understand and learn everything (I was just bored in class). So if it's a strong AP report, consider sending it for the admissions decision.

Would it be all right if I didn't include the author for Catch 22, since it is such a well-known novel, but for lesser-known and more modern novels that I've read recently include the author... that way I can squeeze in a few more books?

Hey anuy, i actually fitted 12 books at one point... UNTIl i realized they want to know your "favorites". So i guess its ridiculous to put that much and it probably risks them doubting whether you actually enjoyed... 12 "favorite" books. I'd say they want about 3-4, you can probably get away with 6-7 though. But i certainly wudnt list 10...

I thought it was supposed to be the list of books you've "enjoyed" reading and not your "favorite" books

My son didn't put any authors down (Catch 22 was on his list, as well as a Stephen Hawking book, and an Al Franken one--that's all I can remember.) He assumed that the admissions folks would recognize them--didn't seem to hurt him to do so.

Does anyone know the importance of this question?

It's to tell Columbia more about who you are. It's all part of the big picture. You can't isolate it.
