Ah yes! Two of my favorite shows! My school did Les Mis two years ago and it was awesome, and Spring Awakening just speaks for itself!

I wish I could see Spring Awakening! I would also love to see Chicago on Broadway. (I’ve seen it twice off Broadway and it was excellent!)

has anyone here seen studio 60 on the sunset strip?

For my daily routine, I wrote about my love for video games and how it expands my imagination and interests and provides a nice way to deal with stress

My intriguing character is Dorian Gray from Mr. Wilde’s famous book

and I picked teen pregnancy as my issue cause i work on a national board dealing with the issue BTW GUYS WATCH TEEN MOM ON MTV. :)

Teen Mom always makes me really sad. Really, it’s just not entertaining to watch teenage mothers publicize their mistakes.

@ wej

that’s good! that means the show’s doing its job. we didn’t want teens to see it and be like OH I WANT A BABAY.

on another note, I love jersey shore. it’s like the pork rinds of the television world.

deadmau5, do you actually work for Teen Mom?

well, in a different kind of way. I’m on the Youth Leadership Team for the national campaign to prevent teen and unplanned pregnancy, so it’s our job to connect with audiences on a lot of things that involve the issue - including Teen Mom. My boss wants me to talk to teens and get the word out about it, because 16 and pregnant was such a big hit and because The Campaign was more directly involved with Teen Mom.

I didn’t write or produce the show, but a group of other YLT members and myself attended early screenings and gave feedback. It was really upsetting, but definitely gets its point across - something I hope causes teens to stop and think about the issue.

I hope I don’t sound conceited :P

nah, that’s pretty cool actually. I think you said on another thread that you’re from MD, right? So am I. What county are you from?

oh sweet! yeah, I’m from Baltimore County. what about you? :O

hi all!

I’m a huge theatre/Broadway dork. I especially love Spring Awakening.

I wrote about Prior Walter from Angels in America for my favorite character. (I just realized he’s a guy and this application’s for an all-girls school. Oh well)

I wrote about driving home from school for my daily routine. I like to sing loudly. :)

Governmental issue is equal rights for LGBT community, especially marriage equality.

:)

I’m working on the Barnard supplement right now and I think I’m going to write about Claude Bukowski from HAIR (I’m not an incredibly super-huge Broadway enthusiast but that show just blew. me. away). Probably going the “character who intrigued me” route because I can’t think of what he taught me. He’s just supremely cool. And I really recommend the revival of Hair if any of you are going to be in New York anytime soon.

ah yeah hopefully I’m seeing it again right after New Years. :)

But cottoncandy, I don’t know about writing about Claude, because the character is not very well written. I think you might actually have more to work with if you chose Berger. I mean the book of the show is kind of terrible, but it doesn’t matter, because the songs are amazing and the cast is incredible. Best of luck! :D

Thanks! I agree that there isn’t a TON of substance behind Claude, but I figured it would almost be easier to pick a character with less considering I can only use 1000 characters. I started with Jean Valjean from Les Miserables (the book version) but found that a short paragraph wasn’t really enough to delve into background, character analysis, and importance in my life I guess I’ll write Claude and see how it turns out…

I wrote about Yang Wenli from a Japanese book series titled The Legend of Galactic Heroes…although my memory of him mostly came from the anime version of the original book series. But, anyway, I’m very proud that I get to be accepted into Barnard AND to share my love for Yang with whoever that read my application. It’s probably not as crazy as I personally feel but I still can’t believe what I did–ten years later I will definitely be sharing this story with my anime-loving friends and children. XD

@peaches

haha, I did Agrado from Todo Sobre Mi Madre! I wrote about her monologue and how authenticity is achieved by realizing who you want to be, and not resigning to what you’ve been given.

I wrote about Erik (The Phantom) from The Phantom of the Opera. I described that his story has permeated through film, literature, and musical theatre for almost a century because everyone can relate to feeling ‘different’ or outcasted, and how this had always been a comfort to me.
I don’t know if this was the best choice, but I guess I’m sticking with it.

i wrote about edward bloom from big fish

Haha, I wrote about Julia Stiles from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. I talked about how she taught me I could embrace my femininity as part of my intellectual journey. At the end I included some shameless name dropping about how Julia paved the way for my appreciation of Ayn Rand/Margaret Atwood/some other female writer in order not to come across as a total ditz. Hopefully that worked.

As for the routine I wrote about listening to NPR’s This American Life every night with my dad while doing the dishes. I liked that essay better.

On the whole I really liked the Barnard prompts, I thought one paragraph was a good length and they were a good combination of specific and abstract.

I wrote about House…Dr. House and how I like his dark humor…I sometimes love him and hate him.
