On second thought they dont have to be your favorite, but just intrigue you.

Grendel from "Grendel" - if he's suppose to represent the dark side of humanity, then I'm in. I think that at one point or another, I feel Grendel-ish sometimes - lonely, pessimistic about the state of humanity, and desperate for answers.

Cathy Earnshaw - my first words after reading "Wuthering Heights" was "Cathy's an idiot!" I still think she's an idiot, but she's also so crazy, I can't help but be intrigued by her.

Godric, from True Blood - has anyone seen True Blood lately? How awesome is he?

Phoebe, from The Catcher in the Rye - if I ever have a daughter, I want her to be like Phoebe.

Film characters:
Hmm…well, I really like Christine and the Phantom from The Phantom of the Opera. I like the interaction between the two, the affect that the phantom has, and also the symbolic reference of the rose and ring.(I love the ending:) haha)

Novel characters:
From A Fine Balance, I love Valnik. I seriously love his character. He comes up during random time intervals and reflects on the concept of life, people, and reality. I’m EXTREMELY interested in different perspectives of life and the world itself(the concepts are very intriguing:)) He is a quiet man who one has to find. He makes observations of life around him and reflects on different perspectives. He watches the reality of the world and people, and from solely speaking to him, you learn more about yourself and who you truly are. While he reflects on life and himself through his conversations with others, many people opt not to listen to him. However, those who find the time to converse with him are able to gain hope, insight, a realistic approach to life that contrasts with that of modern society, and acknowledge someone symbolic to that of a mirror; one that reflects each individual upon their encounter with him. He is essentially a hidden identity that chooses to remain hidden until found and discovered, similarly to the meaning of life. Haha, as you can tell, it is one of my favorite books of all time:) I highly recommend it. If I could ever be a character in a novel, I would want to possess all of these qualities and intellect that this fictional character holds.
One of my favorite quotes of all time:
“'After all, our lives are but a sequence of accidents- a clanking chain of chance events. A string of choices, casual or deliberate, which add up to that one big calamity we call life.”’ - A Fine Balance

barry egan from punch drunk love. he is a neurotic little man who finds love in his life. what a great character & movie.

Holden Caulfield - Catcher in the Rye (but I love Phoebe as well – she’s soo sweet)
Yossarian - Catch 22

Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights…

On a contemporary note, I love Severus Snape too…

I can’t remember anyone else. I have a soft spot for those characters who are wildly misunderstood and thought to be “bad eggs” but have a more complex personality than that. Only in the end do you discover the goodness that lies within :).
