College and coffee go hand-in-hand, I've come to learn. So, what are some of your favorite places to get coffee, and do you like staying in the cafe?

Me? I haven't found a really good local place that suits me, so I've been sticking to Peet's. I like a dark roast, which Peet's does in a much better fashion than Starbucks.

I like studying in coffee places because of the atmosphere - just enough action to keep things interesting, but relaxed enough that you can really focus on your work.

I do Starbucks every so often, but prefer the local place - Fido (used to be a pet store).

Starbucks all the way. There's one like every two blocks. The atmosphere is nice for more relaxed studying and study groups, but when it comes to hardcore I-have-a-final-the-next-day studying, I like the on-campus study lounges & libraries.

if you're talking about places that i get to when i'm on campus...

Trojan Grounds - open 24 hours, good enough coffee ("We proudly brew Starbucks"), and they take meal plan dining dollars (what a beautiful thing, those!)

Ground Zero - student run coffee/tea/milkshake lounge just outside my window, great shakes, FREE shows (sometimes very good shows), they take campus debit (which is second to dining dollars, not bad)

WHY DOESN"T GROUND ZERO TAKE DINING DOLLARS... I love their shakes though and trojan ground is really close... I only drink their frappuchino though.

Starbucks makes okay "dessert" coffee, but the chain is depressing and homogenous. It has no personality (and they always burn the drip coffee). The best coffee that I've ever had was at a place called stumptown coffee in Portland, OR. Here in san diego there's a place called twiggs that is pretty good.

Wow, I'm surprised Starbucks is so popular among college students. When I mention Starbucks here, I get replies like "not fair-trade coffee" or "corporate big-business world domination thing."
