I have been admitted in NYU masters program and I'm pretty excited about it, I'm also new immigrant and just got in New York City. I'm trying to spending my day time in the NYU area to get to know the campus and the city better. But I was wondering if there are good places in NYU area where students usually hang out, study or spend time. Something like Starbucks where I can read a book or use my laptop and surf the internet (I activated my netid so I can use the NYU wireless network). There was a good Starbucks shop near Washington Sq park, I used to enjoy setting in there but today I found they closed it for winter break. I appreciate if anyone can help

the starbucks on washington square is closed for break? that’s weird, i was just in there like three days ago.

if you’re not set on using the nyu wireless (i’m not a student there so i don’t know how far it reaches) think coffee is awesome. it’s on mercer between 3rd and 4th and has bangin’ single-origin beans.

the starbucks on the square is franchised by nyu, so I guess it closes over break - should be open by jan 4th. another common hangout is campus eatery which is across from courant (the math building next to the business school)

I second Think Coffee and other good places are Caffe Dante (on McDougal near the law school…it’s like a hundred years old) and cafe Angelique on bleecker st and check out Grey Dog’s Coffee which is on University Place a couple blocks north of the park.

between classes, students often head to the student center (kimmel) which is next to bobst library - it has like 9 floors of lounges/study areas, some computer labs, and a great dining hall

for pizza, try Bleecker St Pizza (on bleecker/7th) and Joe’s Pizza on Carmine St…there are lots of good places in the West village, but my favorite pizza place is Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn (get aquainted with the Village first though :))
Oh, and don’t buy crepes from the crepes shop on washington sq, it’s crap. The space market and other store next to it are fine though and take campus cash. there’s also discounts for nyu students in a lot of local shops, look around

Thanks a lot for your information, I appreciate it :). Today I went to Think Coffee and I really enjoyed it there. I’ll try the other coffee shops and the pizza place you mentioned tomorrow and next week.
I can’t wait till I can go to kimmel it sounds very interesting from your description, I didn’t get the ID so I have to wait I guess.
