Favorite hobbies?

Just wondering what some of your favorite hobbies are? Now that D22 has finished all her college apps my hobby of nagging her about that has disappeared and I’m feeling like I need to get a new one that is more enjoyable. So, hit me up! Creative pursuits especially.

I’ve always leaned away from the term “hobbies” - that always makes me think I need to be crafty or build something.

My INTERESTS:
Gardening (indoor and outdoor)
Fitness
Cooking/Baking - all things food really - learning about cultural food AND eating it.
Refinishing furniture
Outdoor time (hiking, visiting areas with water features)
Homes - decorating, local real estate, etc.

Thanks for your answers. Those look like interesting interests!

Hobbies or interests are both welcome. I am crafty and like to build things so those type of hobby suggestions are right up my alley too.

I crochet and decorate (design, paint, sew, light upholstery, wallpaper, furniture refinishing, etc.)

Hubby and I love to cook together. We’ve designed two kitchens to accommodate multiple cooks and entertain large groups. So, I guess entertaining is a hobby as well.

I’ve become more interested in cooking, Farmer’s markets and crafting. I have also started sewing again and even made bowl cozies for our home. They’re handy and keep fingers from getting too hot from Corian bowls.

Reading, upholstery (taken up during Covid), needlepoint, water aerobics (but the pool I go to is broken), sewing (apparel, home dec, quilts; I never put my sewing machine away), cats, choral singing (this is my favorite. I’d do it every day if I could but we only have rehearsal once a week.)

My job is kind of a hobby. I’m the bookkeeper in a fabric store. I only work about 8 hours a week but it’s in a fabric store.

I also participate in focus groups and message boards about a health condition I have which I’ve learned a to. About over the past 20+ years. A nice thing is many of the focus groups give honorariums, which are nice bonus.

Gardening, yard maintenance, and landscape design are Mr. B’s and my favorite hobbies. A small brag: we have been asked multiple times who designed the landscape at our House1. We always responded, “Thank you, but they are not for hire.”

Vegetable (mostly) gardening; and, with the modest amounts of leftover garden food that isn’t eaten shortly after picking, I will preserve those vegetables via canning and/or fermentation.

I have recently started making sourdough bread, after attending a webinar on making kombucha and sourdough that was sponsored by one of my alumni associations, and then getting a sourdough starter from the retired professor who did the webinar. (I’ve never successfully baked much bread before, and certainly not using yeast; but I am really trying to be successful at this, and it is very satisfying when it finally works!)

Also reading: while it’s always been a favorite activity, currently I am going through many books that I haven’t read in a while to determine which ones I might read again, and which ones I can haul off to trade in at a second-hand bookstore in our city.

I play classical guitar, run, exercise, and play trivia once a week with dh and a group of our friends. One of my runs each week is with dh and a run group followed by dinner.

I used to like to cook more than I do now.

I need to find a volunteering gig.

Longtime - running, lifting, yoga, reading, hiking

I love to travel but not sure it counts as a hobby since I don’t get to do it as much as I’d like.

New - learning German (Duolingo) I love it! And also started to play piano again.

On hiatus - h and I started going to arcades around the region and also Comicons. He’s a big comic/toy collector. But then covid hit.

So many good suggestions on this list. I do quite a few that have been mentioned, hiking/walking, digital photography especially nature photography, gardening especially native plants, reading, volunteering at the library, baking (and eating), do a little drawing and pastels and occasional painting, did a pottery class awhile back, love to travel when we can.

I would love to take up something new to shake things up a bit.

Not exactly new but since you mentioned a love of gardening/plants, what about taking the Master Gardener course? I have thought about doing this but the class scheduling is limited and doesn’t work well with my work schedule.
